Oracle Legacy Oracle Cloud ERP ERP Financial ERP n/a 2017 2018
In 2017, World Bank implemented Oracle Cloud ERP as its enterprise finance platform. The deployment is classified under the ERP Financial category and used Oracle Cloud Release 12 (Financials/PPM) modules to centralize core accounting and project portfolio workflows. Implementation focused on core Financials capabilities common to ERP Financial systems, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and subledger accounting, together with Project Portfolio Management for capital and program accounting. Configuration work emphasized chart of accounts harmonization, period close orchestration and project cost management to align financial controls and project accounting processes. The architecture followed a cloud delivered Oracle Cloud ERP model with multi module orchestration across finance and project teams, enabling centralized financial master data and transaction processing. Operational coverage included finance and project management departments across the institution, with governance centered on centralized financial controls, role based access management and a staged rollout to manage configuration and accounting policy changes.

Microsoft Legacy Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) Analytics and BI Analytics and BI n/a 2016 2018
In 2016, World Bank implemented Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) to establish an enterprise data warehousing and reporting foundation for Analytics and BI. The effort targeted both OLTP and OLAP database layers to support business segment reporting and cross agency data exchange. The implementation encompassed logical and physical database design, modeling and deployment of an enterprise data warehouse, and SSAS based analytic models for multidimensional analysis. ETL capabilities were defined, developed and optimized using SSIS packages, T SQL stored procedures and SQL Server jobs, while database objects including tables, views, indexes, functions and optimized stored procedures were created and maintained. Integration work focused on inter agency data exchange processes and database upgrade activities, where teams upgraded stored procedures, SSIS packages and jobs. Development extended to using C#.Net, XML and XSLT to transform and move data from OLTP sources into the data warehouse and downstream client applications, providing operational orchestration through scheduled SQL Server jobs and monitoring. Governance and operational controls included standardizing ETL process definitions, ongoing performance tuning of T SQL queries and reports, and ownership of database upgrade and data integration workflows. Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) was used to generate periodic reports with SSRS report tuning, delivering a centrally managed Analytics and BI platform that supports reporting, analytics and data integration business functions.

Ethereum Foundation Legacy Ethereum Platform Blockchain Platform Blockchain n/a 2021 2021
In 2021, the World Bank implemented the Ethereum Platform as a private Blockchain Platform to support joint experimentation with the International Monetary Fund. The deployment used Enterprise Ethereum to instantiate a permissioned private blockchain network that prioritized institutional DLT testing and education rather than public token economics. The implementation emphasized private network topology and permissioned consensus, with token issuance and smart contract runtime configured for sandboxed experimentation. A central capability was the creation and lifecycle management of a non-monetary digital asset called Learning Coin, implemented to model issuance, access control, and token revocation workflows without any fiat peg or monetary value. Kaleido provided technology support for network provisioning, node management, and developer tooling to operate the Enterprise Ethereum runtime and associated tooling. The program was scoped as a World Bank and IMF collaboration and targeted institutional teams, innovation labs, and policy research groups for hands-on DLT experiments, aligning World Bank Ethereum Platform Blockchain Platform to enterprise learning and capability building functions. Governance controls and operational workflows were established to enforce permissioning, token policy, and sandboxed testing, ensuring Learning Coin remained an educational instrument and not a financial instrument. The initiative functioned as an applied learning environment to help institutions understand how blockchain can be used to prototype sustainable digital asset models and operationalize governance for private distributed ledgers.
