In 2007 Topaz Energy Ltd implemented CDS Codas as its Distribution ERP. The deployment formed part of a program migrating SAP ERP to CDS Codas and reported to the Group Financial Controller, with initial implementation focused on the Home Heat subsidiary.
CDS Codas was configured to support accounts payable, accounts receivable, stock control, statutory financial accounts and management accounting capabilities, and to produce outputs required for annual audit and VAT and TAX audit processes. The implementation included a complete overhaul of the subsidiary chart of accounts and business process flows to standardize month end close and management reporting.
A Management Accounting BI solution using Cognos 7 BI was designed and implemented in tandem with CDS Codas, with cubes and reports developed to feed consolidated management reporting from the Distribution ERP. In addition, ad hoc MS Access applications and VBA spreadsheet solutions were created to automate financial accounting processes, transactional reconciliations and data extracts between systems.
Governance and process changes centralized finance ownership under the Group Financial Controller, embedding new month end workflows and control points within CDS Codas. The finance team held key month end responsibilities for both the subsidiary and parent company, working closely with the Financial Controller to reduce the month end timeline and to strengthen audit readiness.

Operational coverage extended companywide from sales to customer service and management dashboards, providing a central point to monitor customer activity and accelerate informed decision making.
Governance changes included a companywide CRM strategy and process alignment to embed the new workflows into commercial and service operations, with Storm Technology retained as the implementation partner. Topaz reported explicit benefits including improved customer engagement, enhanced customer service through trend detection in feedback, improved productivity from streamlined processes and centralized information, and increased revenue via better visibility for up-sell and cross-sell opportunities.
