In 2020 US Special Operations Command implemented SAS Workforce Analytics, a Workforce Analytics application, to address high attrition in its qualification courses and the associated training cost exposure. The command faced a pipeline problem where too many candidates failed to complete training, and the government cost context included an average spend of $45,000 per soldier who starts the qualification course. US Special Operations Command used SAS Workforce Analytics for personnel selection and training qualification decision support across its training pipeline.
The implementation emphasized predictive analytics capabilities common to Workforce Analytics, including candidate profiling, predictive modeling to estimate likelihood of graduation, and attribute weighting to surface which candidate qualities most strongly correlate with success. SAS Workforce Analytics was configured to produce scored candidate profiles and operational dashboards to inform recruiting and selection workflows, prioritizing qualities with the largest modeled impact on completion rates. The deployment reflected a flexible, scalable analytics stack aligned with workforce assessment processes.
Operationally the solution was embedded into the qualification selection workflow, changing how candidate attributes were evaluated during admission and assignment to training cohorts. Governance and process adjustments included formalizing the use of weighted attribute scores in selection decisions and establishing analytic reporting to training leadership for continuous assessment of candidate screening criteria. SAS Workforce Analytics helped Special Operations Command identify candidates with the qualities needed to successfully graduate and weight qualities with the biggest impact on their success, improving decision fidelity in personnel selection for training.
