In 2013 Universal Stainless implemented Microsoft Dynamics GP as its ERP Financial platform. The deployment served the company's plant accounting and divisional finance needs at the North Jackson, OH site and became the primary ledger and reporting system used by plant finance staff during the 2015 to 2024 period described by the Plant Accounting Manager role.
Microsoft Dynamics GP was configured to support core ERP Financial workflows including general ledger processing, month end divisional journal entries and reconciliations, manual costing for premelts, inventory and scrap transaction maintenance, amortization, allocations and accruals. The environment included Report Designer based financial reporting used to produce the monthly financial PowerPoint package and executive presentations, and it supported cost accounting activities such as detailed raw material reconciliations and cost adjustments.
The implementation operated alongside and integrated with several operational systems explicitly referenced in internal processes, Microsoft Dynamics GP receiving and providing data to the MAP System for raw material inventory, Spendmap for purchase order workflows, Docuclass for document management and OFS for shipment holds and freight and average cost adjustments. Operational coverage extended to divisional accounts payable process flows, daily shipping report generation and shipment compliance audits, and routine provisioning of raw material consumption and receipt data for auditors.
Governance centered on plant finance and cost accounting controls, with defined month end procedures and approval gates for purchase requisitions and credit hold releases, and a named power user providing on site training for Docuclass and GP report usage. Configuration retained manual costing steps and process update responsibilities for premelt costing and scrap classification, supporting regular audit-ready reconciliations and the daily operational reporting required by production managers and the executive team.
