| UNIT4 | Legacy | Unit4 Business World | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2010 | 2010 |
In 2010 University of Plymouth implemented Unit4 Business World as its core ERP Financial system supporting central finance and administrative workflows. The deployment foregrounded Unit4 Self Service access for staff, who authenticate with their University account, and established the Unit4 User Access Request form as the primary governance mechanism for provisioning.
Configuration emphasized self-service and transactional web modules, with formal adoption of Web Requisitioning, Web Sales Order and Web Enquiries functionality accompanied by role-based user guides published to the Official Document Centre. Training and enablement were institutionalized through the Systems Training pages, where staff book places on Unit4 Web Requisitioning, Web Sales Order or Web Enquiries sessions, aligning system configuration with procurement, sales order processing and enquiry-handling workflows.
Operationally Unit4 Business World functions alongside the University of Plymouth eStore, the campus online store used for conference bookings, field trips and other payable services, while the finance department maintains multiple online payment acceptance methods. The Finance Systems team provides support across both Unit4 and the eStore, indicating coordinated operational coverage between ERP Financial processing and online payment and booking channels.
Governance relied on documented access processes and on-site system ownership by the Finance Systems team, led by Jon Netting as Finance Systems Manager with Heidi Dawe, Jos Hajiyianni, Shane Richards and Steven Piper supporting systems accounting and assistance. Unit4 user guides on the ODC, plus the access request workflow and structured training bookings, formed the primary controls for rollout, access management and user enablement.

In 2014 University of Plymouth implemented Sunrise ITSM and expanded the platform beyond IT into campus security, self-service, and operational services. Sunrise HR Case Management was incorporated into that broader deployment to provide HR Service Delivery for employee case handling and HR enquiries, aligning the application with university-wide service workflows.
The Sunrise HR Case Management implementation used core HR Service Delivery capabilities such as case logging and lifecycle management, a staff self-service portal, automated case routing and escalation, and a centralized knowledge repository. Configuration focused on standard HR case workflows and service catalog items consistent with HR Service Delivery use cases, enabling HR teams to capture, triage, and resolve employee enquiries within the Sunrise HR Case Management application.
Operational coverage extended the Sunrise platform across multiple departments, including IT, campus security, operational services, and HR, creating shared queues and a common self-service interface for staff. Rollout proceeded as an expansion of the existing Sunrise ITSM footprint, consolidating service intake and enabling cross-departmental visibility into case status and workflow handoffs while retaining departmental ownership of HR and operational processes.
The expanded Sunrise deployment delivered measurable operational benefits, including a reported 9.33% improvement in first-time fix and documented staff time savings tied to the broader platform expansion. University of Plymouth, Sunrise HR Case Management, HR Service Delivery, and HR are linked in this implementation as a multi-department service orchestration effort using Sunrise HR Case Management to streamline employee-facing HR workflows.
