In 2020, Verizon implemented SAP Ariba Accounts Payable as part of a broader consolidation of finance functions onto the 1ERP SAP S4/HANA Finance & Supply Chain platform. The deployment focused on centralizing Accounts Payable processing inside an enterprise SAP architecture to standardize invoice lifecycle management and supplier interactions across business units.
SAP Ariba Accounts Payable was configured as an AP Automation solution to manage invoice processing, payments, banking interfaces, business partner master data, and Concur travel and expense reconciliation. Configuration and build work included functional design, user story definition, system testing, and validation of SAP FI Accounts Payable domain processes, aligned to end to end ERP finance and supply chain workflows.
The implementation explicitly integrated with Ariba procurement flows and Concur travel and expense functions, and coordinated banking and payments connectivity to support electronic disbursements and reconciliation. Operational coverage spanned Finance, Procurement, Treasury, Tax, and Project and Asset Accounting teams, with cross functional testing and requirements gathering across cost allocations, intercompany settlements, consolidations, regulatory compliance, tax, labor accounting, and asset and project accounting.
Program governance relied on an SAP Accounts Payable Technical Product Owner and dedicated AP consulting resources to prioritize the change backlog, manage stakeholder engagement, and oversee Agile delivery. Controls included issue resolution, change control and risk management processes, comprehensive project plans, and scheduled status and metric reporting to program governance.

In 2019, Verizon implemented Workday Benefits to establish a centralized Benefits Administration capability as part of a broader Workday HCM, Payroll and Recruiting rollout. The deployment of Workday Benefits supported HR and benefits management functions across Verizon, aligning benefits enrollment, eligibility rules and reporting with enterprise HR processes.
Workday Benefits was configured with custom reporting and calculated fields to deliver worker demographic and payroll data, and to support benefits vendors globally. Functional workstreams included benefits enrollment and administration, payroll feed preparation, compensation grade profile reporting, onboarding notifications, and manager alerts for team events, all implemented through custom Workday reports and delivered integrations.
Integrations and architecture used a mix of Workday tools, including Enterprise Interface Builder outbound integrations, Workday Studio inbound and outbound integrations, and core connector templates with document transformation XSLT to interface with external systems. Named integrations delivered worker demographic and payroll data to Cloud Pay for payroll across 41 countries, and produced custom reports for Mercer, Darwin, Buck and Benpal for global benefits management. Identity and email orchestration were handled through Microsoft Azure integrations, while encrypted outbound feeds were provided to ServiceNow, LMS, FCM, CSAD and a Workforce data domain, and job postings were sent to SmashFly via an outbound HTTP connection. The team also built interfaces to feed SAP S4 HANA as an HR mini master and to load payroll earnings into the Inspire recognition program.
Governance and operationalization included creation of technical design documents, run books and transition documentation, structured testing and production support for calculated fields and integrations, and configuration of both constrained and unconstrained security groups using role based, user based and job based security as well as integration system security groups. The implementation included fit gap analysis and full cycle design engagements between SAP and Workday processes to align HR business workflows with the Workday Benefits application.
