| Microsoft | Microsoft Dynamics AX | Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2018 | 2019 |
In 2018, Wedgewood upgraded from Microsoft Dynamics AX to Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations as its core ERP Financial platform. The engagement focused on consolidating corporate finance and project accounting capabilities for a 300 employee construction and real estate firm, with the implementation led by a single technical lead responsible for design, development, testing and delivery.
The Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations implementation encompassed core financial modules including General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Cash and Bank management, Project Management and Accounting, and Budgeting. Configuration work included custom extensions and new model elements to support multi entity fixed asset transfers, acquisitions, depreciation and disposals, as well as automation of closing processes to ingest escrow statements into General Journals.
The deployment included integrations and technical components consistent with ERP Financial implementations, using data import/export framework DIXF for data migration and creating custom data entities during the upgrade. Integration work included AR/AP inbound integrations to import sales orders and purchase orders from external systems, Concur Invoice and Concur Travel and Expense integrations to convert vendor invoices via OCR into electronic invoices, and bank integrations that consumed BAI2 statements and supported Positive Pay, auto reconciliation and ACH payments with Bank of America and Chase. Reporting and analytics were delivered through AX SSRS reports and Power BI with DAX queries.
The technical architecture and operations covered an upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 to Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations version 7.2, code refactoring to align with AX 7 coding practices, and build and release governance via Team Foundation Server. The implementation included automated code build and deployment strategies, hotfix and cumulative update management, onshore and offshore development coordination, and post go live support including process reengineering and additional customizations.
Operational outcomes explicitly documented included elimination of approximately 50 percent of manual invoice data entry through Concur OCR based processing and improved invoice traceability from submission to payment. The project included end user training and acceptance activities to operationalize the Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations ERP Financial system across finance, AP, AR and project accounting functions.

Yardi Voyager was configured to process inbound invoices and to enforce vendor W-9 verification, while labeling General Ledger coding for company and property manager expenses. Operational invoice handling included processing more than 1000 utilities invoices nationwide for water, power, gas, sewer and trash, entering invoices into Microsoft AX Dynamics, and uploading utility invoices to AX for ACH and check payments. The implementation included daily entry of credit card payments into Concur with attached supporting documents, and verification of final utility bills in Minerva.
Operational integrations and handoffs were explicitly executed with Microsoft Dynamics 365 for attaching ACH supporting documents, with Microsoft AX Dynamics for invoice entry and payment uploads, with Concur for credit card payment posting and document attachment, and with Minerva for final utility bill verification. The operational scope covered Accounts Payable, Utilities, Property Management and Finance functions, and included routine back-office tasks such as sorting and distribution of daily mail and assisting the Utility Supervisor.
