In 2018, Wilko Retail implemented SAP S/4 HANA Finance as part of an Omni-channel Digital Programme, deploying the application within an ERP Financial context to centralize finance integration across retail and digital channels. The program leveraged a broader SAP Retail solution set including SAP Hybris, SAP POS GK, SAP CAR, SAP ECC-IS Retail, SAP PO and multiple WMS systems to unify commerce, store and distribution touchpoints.
SAP S/4 HANA Finance was implemented as the Central Finance component with end to end design and build of finance integration between SAP ECC and the central system, enabling consolidated financial posting and accounting flows. The implementation work included design of SAP CAR DDF and UDF configurations to support reusable data layers for planning, analysis and forecasting, and integration of SAP CAR with SAP F&R for store and DC replenishment and demand forecasting.
Integration scope emphasized near real time interfaces, the design and build of SAP ECC connections to third party logistics providers such as Clipper WMS and GFS, and orchestration of order fulfilment using SAP CAR OAA together with SAP ECC for web orders, and SAP CAR POSTA for retail transaction postings from POS GK. Operational coverage spanned Wilko stores and Wilko.com, impacting finance, supply chain, retail operations and e-commerce fulfillment processes.
Governance and rollout activities were driven through enterprise architecture review and approval, structured workshops and gap fit analysis to produce blueprints, and a landscape and roadmap for the SAP IS Retail omni-channel platform. Responsibilities included high level solution design for both digital and store channels, end to end supply chain blue printing, and business engagement to align processes and requirements with the SAP S/4 HANA Finance deployment.

In 2018, Wilko Retail implemented Alight Payroll (ex NGA Payroll) to centralize core Payroll processing across the business. The program migrated 21,000 employees from Peoplesoft Oracle to Resourcelink MyView, the NGA payroll platform now under Alight, with the Wilko IT team leading the IT workstream from May 2018 through August 2019.
The implementation encompassed full data migration including conversion, mapping, and derivation work streams, and included GDPR compliant data anonymisation for Payroll testing. Payroll testing and legislative compliance were completed on an aggressive nine month timeline, with the program delivered within budget.
Integration work included redevelopment of interfaces using SAP PO to ten integrated systems, removal of no longer required data to support GDPR obligations, and improvements to alerting and monitoring for Support Teams. Project activities also covered decommissioning of redundant payroll applications, design of Data Retention and Archive for the legacy payroll estate, and deployment of 1,950 Microsoft Office 365 F1 accounts to provide email and Office access to the Retail Management estate.
Governance and operational handover were formalized, with the project team engaging and managing multiple third party suppliers to ensure ongoing compatibility of integrated systems to the new payroll platform. The project handed the new payroll system and IT operations into Business As Usual support, and a subsequent initiative was started within the retained and outsourced payroll team to review configuration of the new system.
