| SAP | Legacy | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2020 | 2021 |
In 2020 Worten implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its core ERP Financial application. The SAP S/4 HANA deployment was positioned to centralize finance functions while aligning with supply chain modernization efforts at the retailer reporting to the CIO, Sales leadership, and Distribution Center Directors, with the program team staffed by business owners, product owners, solution designers, developers, QA, and support resources based in Lisbon.
The implementation covered standard ERP Financial capabilities consistent with the category, including centralized financial accounting, accounts payable and receivable workflows, and period close orchestration, configured to interoperate with Worten’s supply chain systems. SAP S/4 HANA was integrated into project plans that also included an RFID program covering Distribution Center to 210 stores, with RFID development phases executed on AWS Cloud and a pilot then roll out to stores, creating defined integration points between transactional retail flows and the ERP Financial ledger.
Governance for the SAP S/4 HANA program was embedded into a Project Management Office, which implemented tools, templates, project portfolio management, and strategic planning processes. Delivery methods relied on Agile, Scrum, and Kanban practices, including daily meetings, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, burndown tracking, product backlog management, and use of Jira Advanced Roadmap for stakeholder communication and roadmap alignment across finance, sales, and distribution functions.

| Oracle | Legacy | Oracle Retail (ex Retek) | Retail Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2018 | 2018 |
In 2018, Worten implemented Oracle Retail (ex Retek) as its core Retail Management platform across stores in Portugal and Spain. Oracle Retail (ex Retek) was provisioned to support store and sales operation and to serve as the primary transactional system for in store commerce workflows.
The implementation centered on a lead in store sales application that consolidated online marketplace availability in store, insurance processing, simultaneous delivery scheduling with technicians, mandatory AC installation requirements complying with local regulations, and discounts and reports management with third party suppliers. Labels application development was integrated with Oracle Retail (ex Retek) and deployed to all stores in the network. The environment has processed more than 2,200,000 successful cart transactions, including over 1,300,000 completed since July 2019 during the pandemic.
Architecturally the solution emphasized browser exposed APIs and a services layer built on REST and SOAP interfaces, and included the first mobile implementation of in store sales through a WPA approach with focus on browser APIs such as the Barcode Detection Api. The deployment required extensive integrations with SONAE and partner systems to enable marketplace, fulfillment, warranty and supplier report workflows. Operational telemetry was captured by a custom log like application that issues configurable threshold alerts and forwards events to Microsoft Teams for cross department visibility.
Development and operational practices combined DevOps with PHP and Laravel backend engineering, front end work in HTML5 CSS and JavaScript, and API development to support both REST and SOAP endpoints. Governance covered store rollout and production support workflows, with the alerting platform enabling rapid notification to support teams and other departments in real time. Oracle Retail (ex Retek) functions as the transactional backbone for Worten within the Retail Management category.
