In 2018 Yarra Trams implemented Microsoft Dynamics GP as an ERP Financial application to centralize finance and accounting functions across its tram operations. Microsoft Dynamics GP was deployed as the primary ERP Financial system within a broader technology program that also included SharePoint O365 Cloud migration, Tram Tracker, and IBM Maximo, aligning finance, asset management, and operational data flows.
The Microsoft Dynamics GP deployment encompassed core financial modules typical of ERP Financial systems, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed asset accounting, configured to support Yarra Trams accounting and CAPEX processes. Integration work connected Microsoft Dynamics GP to IBM Maximo for asset and maintenance costing, to SharePoint O365 for document management and intranet workflows, and to operational feeds such as Tram Tracker, with API and functional verification performed as part of system integration testing.
Governance and rollout were built around structured test planning and quality assurance practices, with explicit use of test artefacts such as requirement traceability matrices, test scenario and case design, and defect management. System integration testing, user acceptance testing, private validation testing, regression and compatibility testing were executed using Azure DevOps, Jira, ServiceNow, Postman, and BrowserStack, covering web and mobile interfaces and localization requirements for Greater Melbourne Area tram operations, and the implementation was recorded as successful within the suite of concurrent OCMS and BAU projects.

In 2019, Yarra Trams implemented DHS Absence Management as its Absence and Leave Management solution to formalize leave processing for its approximately 2,200 employees in Australia. DHS Absence Management was positioned to support core HR and payroll workflows across the organization and to integrate with the existing HR technology landscape.
The implementation focused on standard Absence and Leave Management capabilities, including employee leave requests, entitlement calculations, manager approval workflows, and operational reporting. DHS Absence Management was configured with policy driven entitlement rules, approval hierarchies, and audit logging to align with Yarra Trams human resources policies.
DHS Absence Management was integrated into Yarra Trams SAP SuccessFactors environment for employee master data synchronization, with explicit downstream integrations to ADP for payroll posting of leave transactions, and connections to ServiceNow and Maximo as operational systems. Integrations were implemented to move approved leave transactions and employee status data between DHS Absence Management, SAP SuccessFactors, ADP payroll, ServiceNow ticketing, and Maximo asset management.
Governance and ongoing support have been managed by the People Systems team accountable for SAP SuccessFactors and downstream integrations, maintaining configuration, interfaces, and data governance for DHS Absence Management. Operational ownership covered HR and payroll business functions, with defined approval workflows and governance processes to preserve system integrity and regulatory compliance.

In 2017 Yarra Trams implemented IBM Maximo as its Enterprise Asset Management solution to centralize asset operations across Melbourne's tram network. The deployment used IBM Maximo Asset Management together with Maximo Mobile to provide field crews and operations staff real time visibility and a centralized repository for equipment history, mileage and service disruptions.
The implementation emphasized standard Maximo functional workflows for work order management, condition based alerts and preventive and predictive maintenance. Automated data feeds from an automated wheel measurement machine and onboard sensors were configured to trigger maintenance alerts and create work orders, while field technicians used Maximo Mobile on tablets to receive assignments, log labor time and update repair records.
IBM System X was used as part of the infrastructure footprint, and the Maximo environment was integrated with third party partners SMS and Datacom as well as other business applications. The Maximo implementation interfaced with procurement, customer service and human resources processes so asset events and maintenance records informed spare parts ordering, customer communications and workforce planning.
Operational coverage included maintenance teams and operations personnel across the network, enabling centralized access to data for all Yarra Trams employees. Governance and workflow changes focused on alert driven work order lifecycles, mobile enabled field execution and the use of analytics to feed preventative maintenance schedules, aligning operations and maintenance processes under the Enterprise Asset Management platform.
IBM reporting on the Smarter Infrastructure program noted improved operational metrics when these capabilities were combined with cloud and mobile technologies, including service delivery reported at 99.13 percent and tram punctuality at 82.63 percent in August as published by IBM. The implementation positioned Yarra Trams to use IBM Maximo for ongoing asset performance management and passenger service reliability.
