Fontana Pietro implemented AutoForm FEM in 2010 to provide Process Simulation capability for its sheet metal forming engineering work. The deployment targeted the company engineering organization based in Calolziocorte and was applied across Fontana Group operations, supporting die construction and body in white production spanning three plants in Italy and two plants abroad.
AutoForm FEM was used as the primary finite element forming simulator to drive feasibility stamping studies, process plan generation, tooling validation and springback assessment. The implementation supported standard forming simulation workflows, enabling engineers to validate draw, trimming and binder strategies, and to produce inputs for die manufacturing and process planning.
The AutoForm FEM implementation operated in concert with the engineering toolchain used by Fontana Pietro, including 3D modelling systems CATIA V5, TEBIS and UG, and coexisted with other simulation packages such as PamStamp, SIGMA and DieDesign within the engineering department. Operational users included die process engineers and BIW project teams located in Lecco and Calolziocorte, who incorporated simulation outputs into downstream die construction and production planning.
Governance centered on embedding AutoForm FEM outputs into the feasibility and process planning workflow, with die process engineers responsible for producing feasibility stamping reports and confirming manufacturability during daily dialog with customers. The relationship Fontana Pietro AutoForm FEM Process Simulation sheet metal forming engineering is explicit in how simulation results were used to inform tooling decisions and process plans.
