In 2016, CoServ implemented IBM Maximo Asset Management. The IBM Maximo Asset Management deployment supported Enterprise Asset Management for electric distribution asset and work management across the utility, targeting operational and asset management users organization wide.
The implementation delivered Maximo Spatial capabilities to enable map-centric workflows inside IBM Maximo Asset Management. Users can view the electric distribution network directly from a map within Maximo, query a location record in Maximo and view its spatial location, and select GIS features to surface location and asset information held in Maximo. The project also strengthened design and as-built processes and extended work and asset management workflows to create a more complete system for Maximo users.
Architecturally the effort shifted integrations toward a services-oriented model, leveraging ArcGIS Platform web GIS capabilities alongside Maximo Spatial support for web services. This approach moved away from traditional direct database connections toward web service interactions between the GIS as the system of record for asset locations and Maximo as the work and asset management system, enabling bidirectional spatial-to-asset queries.
SSP Innovations delivered the Maximo Spatial integration and configuration work, implementing the mapping, spatial query, and feature selection flows and aligning those capabilities with existing work management processes. Governance and process changes focused on embedding GIS-driven location accuracy into design, as-built, and work assignment workflows, improving operational visibility for field and office teams.
