Arab Bank Banking and Financial Services 3645 $362M Jordan Moodys Analytics Moodys Analytics ImpairmentCalc IFRS 9 Accounting 2022 n/a
In 2022, Arab Bank implemented Moodys Analytics ImpairmentCalc to operationalize IFRS 9 Accounting expected credit loss calculations in coordination with Group Head Office and local Finance, Risk and Credit functions. Moodys Analytics ImpairmentCalc was used to centralize ECL computation consistent with Arab Bank group IFRS9 Methodology, processes and Corporate Governance which were reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors. The deployment configured continuous probability of default inputs, a forward looking macroeconomic scenario engine, staging logic aligned to IFRS 9 impairment stages, and the expected credit loss calculation engine to produce 12 month and lifetime ECL outputs. The underlying PD model underwent validation, optimization and calibration phases which resulted in a new continuous PD model that serves as a primary building block for impairment calculations. Integrations included ingestion of customer ratings and PDs imported from Moody's Risk Analytics MRA and consumption of macroeconomic country data that Moody's embeds and updates in ImpairmentCalc. The implementation consumed group identifiers maintained on Customer Credit Reports and the core banking system enabling MIS teams to aggregate funded and unfunded group exposures. Group Risk Management centrally administered credit assessment inputs at Head Office level and coordination with Credit Group and CIB supported operational controls and data reconciliation. Governance and controls were enforced through the bank maker checker rating review process, adherence to Central Bank of UAE Basel III risk weights and credit conversion factors, and application of Central Bank guidance on significant increase in credit risk. The IFRS 9 ECL calculation was reviewed by external auditors who reported no significant impact on overall capital and liquidity of the branch. Moody's ongoing updates to ImpairmentCalc include new macroeconomic and country data and explicit accommodation of COVID 19 impacts via additional stress scenarios or adjusted scenario weights.
Bank of Jordan Banking and Financial Services 1818 $241M Jordan Moodys Analytics Moodys Analytics ImpairmentCalc IFRS 9 Accounting 2018 n/a
In 2018, Bank of Jordan deployed Moodys Analytics ImpairmentCalc to calculate Expected Credit Losses and support regulatory provisioning under IFRS 9 Accounting. The implementation focused on wholesale credit portfolios, specifically corporate and SME exposures, and was positioned to produce group level ECL outputs in accordance with IFRS9 and Central Bank of Jordan instructions. The Moodys Analytics ImpairmentCalc configuration encompassed probability of default mapping, staging logic, scenario weighting and an ECL calculation engine to aggregate lifetime and 12 month loss estimates. Loss given default inputs for acceptable collaterals were produced using the RiskCalc system, and Risk Grades were mapped to probability of default values for all clients, with workflows established to escalate risky grades to business line owners for review. Operational integrations centered on portfolio data feeds and reporting channels used by credit risk, treasury, financial institutions and international branch teams, enabling consolidated ECL reporting and periodic control outputs. The system was used to produce credit portfolio reports, risk committee materials, IFRS9/ECL submissions, economic capital and NPL dashboards, and to respond to commentary and requests from internal and external auditors and the Central Bank of Jordan. Governance changes included development of policies, methodologies and procedures for IFRS 9 Accounting provisioning, establishment of top of the house risk limits that cascade to country and industry credit limits, and formalized control reporting cycles. The program also involved joint ERM work with Moody's and Bank of Jordan teams to align practices across risk management, limit setting and regulatory reporting.
