In 2017 Metersit implemented PTC Windchill PDM as its Product Master Data Management solution for engineering and product documentation control in the design and industrialisation of smart gas meters. The deployment placed PTC Windchill PDM at the center of mechanical design workflows and technical document management for the Milan based manufacturer.
Configuration focused on standard PDM capabilities, including CAD file management, structured bill of materials and part metadata, version and revision control, formal change workflows, access control, and document lifecycle governance. The Windchill implementation supported CREO native data management and parameterized CAD configurations consistent with design for manufacturing and assembly practices.
Integrations and operational coverage included a CREO integration to capture parametric CAD models and drawings, and operational collaboration across commercial and marketing, procurement, project management, quality, electronics and software engineering teams, and factory sites. The system was used to coordinate with external suppliers and test laboratories for validation and certification activities, supporting cross functional traceability of parts and documents.
Governance work included developing procedures and guidelines to standardise component qualification, drawing formats, and CREO customisation, and to optimise recurring mechanical team activities. Engineers provided peer support for CAD and PDM use, embedding Windchill into release processes and routine design reviews to formalise document control and configuration management.
