Bharat Forge | Automotive | 4447 | $753M | India | Hensoldt | Surveillance Optronics | Video Security Cameras | 2018 | n/a |
In 2018, Bharat Forge implemented Hensoldt Surveillance Optronics, deploying the Surveillance Optronics application as a Video Security Cameras solution to support artillery command post situational awareness and target acquisition for the ATAGS Battery Command Post. The deployment was executed as an embedded sensor suite within the Battery Command Post architecture and used during integrated BCP-Gun trials with Army test units.
The implemented Surveillance Optronics unit comprises explicit modules including a day camera, a night camera, and a Laser Range Finder, with on‑platform control and sensor fusion for day night imaging and laser ranging. Surveillance Optronics was configured to provide optical target detection, ranging, and feed to the command post control station, enabling operators to use consolidated optical and range data for engagement workflows.
Integration work connected the Surveillance Optronics feeds into the broader BCP systems, including real time wind sensing from a Wind LiDAR system and atmospheric profiling from a MET Radar, and into ballistic calculation workflows. The OSS imaging and range data were transmitted over established Line and RF communications extending two kilometers using software defined radio links and a Voice and Data Communication Unit, forming part of the BCP sensor to fire control data path.
Operational governance and rollout were managed by the Assistant Manager Laser Lab at Bharat Forge, aligned with Defence R&D KCTI program activities and procurement processes under Defence Procurement Procedure DPP-16 and DPM-09, with Business Development engagement for Army and Navy requirements and RFI and RFP responses. The Surveillance Optronics installation participated in Pokhran field trials and successfully completed ARDE trials with the integrated BCP-Gun and associated subsystems.

Bundespolizei Germany | Government | 54977 | $5.2B | Germany | Hensoldt | Surveillance Optronics | Video Security Cameras | 2022 | n/a |
In 2022, Bundespolizei Germany deployed HENSOLDT Surveillance Optronics, using ARGOS airborne electro-optical systems fitted to police helicopters, with the implementation cataloged under the Video Security Cameras category to enhance airborne observation capabilities. The deployment placed Surveillance Optronics directly on rotary wing platforms to provide persistent aerial imaging and sensor-led reconnaissance for operational sorties across Germany.
The implementation centered on the ARGOS electro-optical sensor suite, configured to deliver high-resolution imaging and real-time video necessary for reconnaissance and target identification. Functional capabilities implemented include stabilized airborne imaging, continuous video capture for mission crews, and sensor control workflows typical of Video Security Cameras used in aerial surveillance operations.
Operational coverage targeted law enforcement, border security, and aerial surveillance functions, with sensor hardware and sustainment scoped to Bundespolizei airborne units operating in Germany. HENSOLDT also opened an Airborne Service Centre in Oberkochen to support the deployment, providing faster repairs and parts support for German customers and reducing sensor downtime through localized maintenance and logistics.
Governance and operational workflows were adjusted to embed airborne sensor maintenance and service-level support into Bundespolizei aviation operations, aligning mission planning with on-call repair and parts provisioning from the Oberkochen centre. The combined system and support footprint strengthened reconnaissance and target identification capabilities for Bundespolizei Germany without specifying changes to other command and control systems.

QinetiQ | Aerospace and Defense | 8403 | $1.9B | United Kingdom | Hensoldt | Surveillance Optronics | Video Security Cameras | 2022 | n/a |
In 2022, QinetiQ contracted HENSOLDT to provision Surveillance Optronics as a Video Security Cameras capability to support intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance services and JTAC training across Europe. QinetiQ deployed Surveillance Optronics to equip DA62MPP aircraft with a pre-configured electro-optical reconnaissance mission system solution that aligns the application to aviation ISR business functions.
The implementation consisted of two complete electro-optical reconnaissance systems, ARGOS-II HD plus EuroNAV, delivered pre-integrated for installation on DA62MPP airframes. The configuration bundled high-definition electro-optical imaging sensors with a navigation and mission management subsystem, creating an integrated airborne surveillance payload consistent with Video Security Cameras functional workflows for capture, stabilization and mission-level control.
HENSOLDT delivered the systems pre-integrated, QinetiQ accepted the deliveries and the systems were put into operation within six months of order, which explicitly reduced integration risk and accelerated operational availability in the region. Operational scope covered ISR services and JTAC training across Europe, and the rollout focused on airframe-level integration, mission system acceptance testing and in-service deployment rather than changes to named ground systems or enterprise IT governance.
