Carbon Engineering | Utilities | 180 | $20M | Canada | Microsoft | Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central | ERP Financial | 2020 |
In 2020, Carbon Engineering implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as its ERP Financial platform to unify accounting, project costing, procurement, time tracking and expenditure management. The Canadian clean energy company moved from off the shelf accounting software and spreadsheets as it scaled and pursued commercialization of Direct Air Capture facilities, creating a need for stronger project cost visibility and centralized processes.
The implementation configured the Business Central Jobs module for detailed project cost tracking and time posting to capture resource costs against projects and tasks. Core Financial modules were deployed for general ledger and expenditure management, while procurement was centralized inside Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central with configurable approval workflows based on defined financial limits to manage project level spend.
Integrations include employee expense management applications available via Microsoft AppSource integrated with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, with deployment positioned on Microsoft Azure to leverage platform security and integration points. Catapult served as the implementation partner, delivering a bundled implementation approach that included go live stabilization and ongoing managed support under a simple monthly SaaS aligned pricing model.
Operational scope covers finance, procurement, project management and human resources to support multiple projects and markets, replacing spreadsheet driven processes with a single platform and database. Governance changes emphasized centralized procurement approvals and project level cost controls, and the finance team reported increased efficiency, more robust reporting, and improved ability for project managers to capture and manage resource costs.

Tricor Pacific Capital | Banking and Financial Services | 20 | $2M | Canada | Microsoft | Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central | ERP Financial | 2019 |
In 2019, Tricor Pacific Capital implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central with Catapult as the implementation partner. The rollout targeted multiple Tricor entities and positioned Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as the single system to consolidate individual company ledgers, giving the corporate accounting team consolidated financial visibility across the portfolio and supporting the company operating in Canada.
The implementation focused on core ERP Financial capabilities, configured account schedules for consolidated and entity-level reporting, and enabled intercompany functionality to simplify transfer and elimination processes. The deployment used statistical accounts to capture nonfinancial measures such as price per share and interest rates, enabled batch entry with review workflows prior to posting, and applied more granular transaction tagging and control settings to improve auditability.
Architecturally the solution was deployed in Microsoft Azure with automatic backups and cloud access, removing dependence on a hosted remote desktop model that previously housed Sage 50, QuickBooks and Excel and introduced downtime and data corruption risks. Day-to-day integrations and productivity connectivity emphasized Excel and Power BI for reporting and analysis, allowing live sessions and direct data access rather than manual extract and refile procedures.
Governance and rollout were executed as a phased program led jointly by Tricor and Catapult, with task sharing, user acceptance testing, and planning questionnaires used to drive adoption and configuration choices. As an explicit outcome stated by the customer, Business Central delivered improved data integrity and accessibility, faster consolidation and month-end assembly of financial statements, and ongoing phase work with Catapult to expand system capabilities in future iterations.
