In 2015 Maison Birks implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations as its ERP Financial platform, engaging Columbus as the systems integrator for a wholesale-focused phase. The engagement targeted cross functional business units within the retail organization and emphasized configuration of core financial and supply chain workflows to support wholesale operations.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations was configured to cover supply chain and finance functionality, with primary process coverage documented for Order to Cash and Procure to Pay. The internal IT Business Analyst served as the sole designer documenting and configuring business processes and procedures, authoring the majority of supply chain process definitions and a portion of finance workflows, and walking through each operational scenario with stakeholders.
The implementation integrated BPM Rapid Value into the D365 configuration as a centralized repository and collaborative forum for process modeling, procedures, and user guidance, providing contextual help and step level instructions for end users. A tracking system was used to record and report failed tests with detail on functionality, missing information, and error handling, and the team collaborated with Columbus analysts to identify configuration gaps and pragmatic workarounds.
Governance included formal business requirements and analysis, RFP and scenario documentation, process and procedures documentation, and Quality Assurance testing prior to user acceptance testing. A Test Plan for Wholesale Order to Cash was created using the Microsoft Sure Step Methodology, the wholesale Order to Cash phase went live into production, and ongoing production support for D365 Wholesale was established.
