In 2021 Trek implemented Siemens MES, a Manufacturing Execution System, at its Waterloo, WI production facility to support the build to order Project One process. The deployment targeted production planning and scheduling functions and was delivered with Siemens partner Snic Solutions to address sequencing and capacity constraints on the Project One line.
The implementation used Siemens Opcenter APS as the advanced planning and scheduling engine within Siemens MES to automate order sequencing, capacity simulation and prioritization. Configuration emphasized sequencing logic for mixed model builds, capacity simulation to identify and avoid potential shutdowns, and prioritization rules to accelerate high value orders and near term deliveries.
Operational coverage was scoped to shop floor planning and scheduling, production supervision and fulfillment for the Waterloo facility, supporting the Project One build to order workflow. The project aligned planning and execution processes, shifting daily scheduling tasks into the Opcenter APS driven cadence and enabling planners to validate schedules with capacity simulation before release.
Governance and rollout were executed with SNic Solutions as the systems integrator, focusing initial releases on sequencing, capacity simulation and prioritization capabilities to minimize production disruption. The Siemens MES deployment more than doubled scheduling throughput and improved customer lead times, while the capacity simulation and prioritization controls reduced the risk of line shutdowns and sped deliveries.
