In 2020, Stormking implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as its ERP Financial system to support distribution and back-office operations. The rollout was driven by the need to digitize a paper-based delivery process across a fleet operation and was introduced alongside a third-party delivery platform by implementation partner Tecman, engaged through Technology Management.
Configuration work centered on standard ERP Financial capabilities, including core finance ledgers, order processing, inventory visibility and distribution touchpoints that surface delivery and order status to internal teams. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central was configured to accept transactional updates and delivery events so finance and operations staff could reconcile orders, match deliveries and reduce manual administration.
The project integrated Business Central with the Podfather delivery platform via an open API, using Podfather as the cloud-based back-office and driver app for route planning, electronic vehicle checks, driver tracking, customer ETA notifications and electronic proof of delivery. Operational coverage included Stormking’s Tamworth manufacturing site and a distribution fleet of 23 HGVs making over 400 deliveries per week to more than 250 housebuilders around the UK, with delivery status and exceptions flowing into Business Central for visibility.
Process and governance changes removed paper tickets and introduced event-driven workflows for exception handling, ETA notifications and dispute resolution, shifting responsibility for delivery confirmation into the combined Business Central and Podfather workflow. Tecman supported the integration and application configuration, enabling operational teams to use driver app data for reconciliation and customer communications.
Stormking reported a substantial drop in incoming customer calls and a 10% improvement in vehicle utilisation after introducing the integrated ePOD and route planning capability, with internal teams gaining faster processes and customers receiving ETA notifications.
