In 2018, The Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IOM3) implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as an ERP Financial solution to modernize its finance operations, and engaged Xpedition as the implementation partner. The deployment was positioned to address constrained reporting and high maintenance exposure, while providing a cloud based licensing model and improved data access.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central was configured to deliver core finance capabilities, including multi entity accounting across four separate legal entities, cash flow management and automatic bank reconciliation. Reporting capabilities were a primary focus, with integration to Microsoft Office enabling direct Excel reporting for ad hoc and statutory enquiries, and Outlook integration used to email remittances, sales invoices and customer statements as standard functionality.
The architecture emphasized a move from on premise infrastructure to the Microsoft Cloud on Azure, using Business Central SaaS licensing to reduce on premise maintenance and hardware dependence. Data migration preserved two years of historical transactional data and addressed the additional complexity of multi entity rebalancing, while the overall implementation was executed to a twelve week project plan with regular governance meetings between IOM3 and Xpedition.
Project governance included a training needs assessment, a rolling program of personalised user training and ongoing support to ensure operational independence for finance staff. The implementation was delivered on time and on budget, and provided IOM3 with a scalable Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central ERP Financial platform that improved reporting flexibility, reduced recurring on premise costs and enhanced data security and accessibility.
