In 2019, Department of Conservation began a greenfields SAP S/4 HANA implementation as its ERP Financial platform, initiating a redesign and full connection of Financial Management Information System and Enterprise Asset Management modules. Configuration work emphasized AP invoice automation with machine learning based OCR, payroll journal and cost centre integration, and learning module integration into the MRS environment, while using SAP CPI extensively to automate banking processes and financial data flows. SAP Solution Manager 7.2 was enabled to support build and test suites, and ARIS was connected to Solution Manager to operationalize business process management for the SAP S/4 HANA deployment.
The architecture included integration of an AWS based enterprise workflow SaaS platform with on premise ECMS, using AWS Lambda and S3 wrappers fronted by AWS API Gateway to orchestrate document flow into the content management system. APIs were secured through cross account assume roles, IP whitelisting and API keys, and a public SaaS API was exposed with mutual TLS as part of NZISM aligned controls. A payment portal for fines was architected to use ANZ eGate hosted checkout to reduce PCI DSS scope, implemented with serverless AWS Lambda and API Gateway components.
Governance activities documented in the program included privacy risk assessment workshops, security risk assessment workshops and penetration testing, and active architecture engagement with business stakeholders to align design and development to operational requirements. Operational coverage specified integration points for visitor centres, an 0800 hotline and front desk channels for logging conservation infringements, reflecting an end to end approach across business functions for finance, asset management and government services.
