In 2015, 3M implemented Workday Absence Management. Workday Absence Management in the Absence and Leave Management category was configured as part of a broader Workday HCM footprint to centralize absence and time related business processes alongside core HR functions.
The implementation included configuration of Core HCM linked workflows for Staffing, Time Tracking, Absence Management, Benefits, Payroll, Compensation, Talent Management, Recruiting and Onboarding to ensure absence entitlements and leave workflows were aligned with HR and payroll processing. Functional deliverables included calculated fields, custom reports and composite reports created with the Workday Report Writer to combine HCM and financial data for operational reporting and scheduled background runs for dashboard and mobile delivery.
Integrations and technical architecture leveraged Workday inbound and outbound channels, specifically Core Connector, Enterprise Interface Builder EIB, and Workday Financials Management web services, with XML, XPATH and XSLT used for transformation logic. The project also consolidated Workday data with third party data sources to feed analytics and dashboards, and executed data conversion extracts from PeopleSoft where required, including a six person development team producing the full set of conversion extracts and Iload files.
Governance and operationalization focused on tenant setup, alert and notification configuration, business process modelling and end to end testing. The implementation team authored test cases, managed conversion testing and ongoing business process management to embed absence and leave workflows into HR, payroll and talent operations.
