The implementation defined two primary configuration templates, one for sales companies and a separate template for manufacturing businesses, with each subsidiary required to configure only local taxes and statutory settings. Functional capability workstreams emphasized core ERP Financial processes, product hierarchy support across sales, inventory, and accounting modules, and standard SAP S/4 HANA process flows, and the project encountered an early product hierarchy gap that SAP addressed to extend hierarchy support across modules.
Deployment architecture used SAP S/4 HANA Public Cloud deployed uncustomized following SAP best practices, enabling a faster, repeatable rollout that reduced dependency on external consultants. The program involved cross-country business representation during template definition, with Germany and Austria serving as the first business units on the roadmap, and design decisions prioritized conformity to the S/4 HANA template rather than country-specific customizations.
Operational readiness focused heavily on master data hygiene, after leadership identified data quality as a critical risk to each cutover. AAF International ran parallel data cleansing across existing systems, which ranged from Pyramid Business Studio in the Nordics, Navision in Finland, Exact in Spain, and Infor in Germany Austria and France, to AS/400 nodes and spreadsheet or paper-based processes, and clarified reporting and ownership responsibilities as part of governance controls. The project experienced a few months delay related to early functional gaps, and much of the subsequent rollout and user enablement was completed virtually during the pandemic, with some in-person activities retained for warehouse scanner testing and hands-on training.
