In 2023, AP Technology deployed Grokability Snipe-IT as its Software Asset Management (SAM),IT Asset Management (ITAM),SaaS Spend Management platform. The deployment was targeted at an environment operated by a four person IT team and supporting a VMware vSphere estate with over 300 guest machines, bringing asset lifecycle tracking into a single system of record.
Grokability Snipe-IT was configured to provide core ITAM and SAM capabilities including centralized hardware and software inventory, serial and license reconciliation, asset check in and check out workflows, barcode and tagging support, and lifecycle state modeling from procurement through retirement. The implementation aligned imaging and provisioning workflows with Snipe-IT records so new client machines are qualified, imaged, and assigned with consistent asset tagging and software baselines.
The Snipe-IT instance was integrated into the existing operational telemetry and infrastructure stack, with deliberate data flows between Snipe-IT and Zabbix for device monitoring correlation, and inventory linkage to VMware vSphere records for virtual guest attribution. The configuration also consumed context from Windows domain services including Group Policy, DHCP and DNS for device to user mapping, and supported asset records for network and print devices managed via pfSense and printer administration processes.
Governance was established around role based access for the IT team, written provisioning and checkout procedures, and scheduled reconciliation workflows to align monitoring and inventory records. Rollout focused on internal IT managed endpoints and incorporated asset lifecycle handoffs into support and change processes, with Snipe-IT serving as the authoritative inventory source for AP Technology's IT operations.
