In 2020, Alpha Bank Romania SA implemented Google Pay on its website to extend its Payment Processing capabilities. Google Pay was integrated into the bank's customer-facing web channels to enable wallet-based cardholder payments and to support browser and mobile checkout flows for retail banking customers.
The implementation used web payment APIs and the Google Pay JavaScript client to capture tokenized card credentials, avoiding storage of raw card numbers on the public site. Authorization requests are routed into the bank's card authorization and back-end payment processing systems, and operational ownership sits with payments operations and digital channels teams for governance, compliance, and ongoing support of the Google Pay Payment Processing integration.
