| SAP | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2021 | 2027 |
In 2021 ANSTO initiated a structured program to prepare its SAP estate for migration to SAP S/4 HANA, targeting the ERP Financial environment and following an existing SAP ERP ECC 6.0 footprint. The work is positioned as a multi-year pathway with an organizational roadmap toward an S4 HANA transition by 2027 and reflects explicit effort to better leverage the existing SAP investment.
The SAP S/4 HANA implementation is framed to centralize ERP Financial capabilities, with emphasis on core finance consolidation, general ledger and statutory reporting workflows, accounts payable controls and procurement financial posting consistency typical of an ERP Financial application. Configuration and platform hardening activities described focus on improving the SAP platform to create a smooth technical and data migration path to SAP S/4 HANA, including preparatory system stabilization and readiness work.
Architecture and integration planning explicitly aligns SAP S/4 HANA adoption with ANSTO's broader move away from purely on-premise delivery into cloud offerings, and with the Microsoft ecosystem that ANSTO has fully deployed via Microsoft Teams and Office 365. ANSTO is also provisioning remote computing and collaboration facilities, and has commenced a project to establish a scalable data repository and a user friendly analytics platform, with pilot analytics already in use and enterprise-wide implementation anticipated to be live by 2022–2023, creating an integrated reporting layer alongside SAP S/4 HANA.
Governance and operational controls have been tightened in parallel, with the Cyber Security Uplift program progressing and a network redesign initiated to support multiple security levels in line with the Australian Cyber Security Centre Essential Eight Mitigation Strategies. Rollout sequencing described in the plan prioritizes platform improvements, security and analytics enablement ahead of an enterprise S/4 HANA migration, reflecting an integrated program that covers finance, procurement and enterprise reporting functions across ANSTO's operations.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP HCM (HR) | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2016 | 2016 |
In 2016 ANSTO implemented SAP HCM (HR) as part of a broader ANSTO Enterprises SAP program targeting Core HR capabilities across the organisation. The SAP HCM (HR) rollout was aligned with a multi-module enterprise program that included Finance, Procurement, Projects and Portfolio Management, Enterprise Asset Management, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing, APO, Fiori Applications, Anaplan and cloud products, and was delivered across ANSTO sites in Sydney Lucas Heights, Camperdown and Melbourne Clayton.
Configuration and functional work focused on delivering core HR processes within SAP HCM (HR), enabling Fiori Applications for mobility and desktop access, and preparing end user learning assets using UPerform. The implementation scope included development of training curricula, course outlines, scheduled delivery into the Learning Management System, and creation of role-based business readiness criteria and impact assessment heat maps to guide adoption.
The program established integrations and operational linkage between HCM and the enterprise modules listed above to support cross-functional workflows, while engaging HR, IR, Learning and Development, Enterprise Solutions, business leads and subject matter experts. Operational coverage extended across all ANSTO divisions at Lucas Heights, Camperdown and Clayton, with coordination through enterprise solution management and corporate communications to align technical and organisational readiness.
Governance centered on a formal change and training strategy, a resource and costed resource matrix, a tiered support model and a Go-live support plan transitioning to business as usual support teams. Program change and project management activities included stakeholder workshops, communication briefing packs, super user identification, training records management, and ongoing consultation to position ANSTO Enterprise as an enabler for the operational integration of the Australian Synchrotron into ANSTO.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP S/4 HANA - Plant Maintenance (PM) | Plant Maintenance | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2016 | 2016 |
In 2016, ANSTO implemented SAP S/4 HANA - Plant Maintenance (PM) as part of the AE Project, establishing an enterprise asset management deployment across the organisation. The implementation targeted the Plant Maintenance category and was scoped to cover asset lifecycle, maintenance planning and execution across ANSTO sites.
The project design included configuration of SAP S/4 HANA - Plant Maintenance (PM) alongside Portfolio Management and Project Systems PPM, Production Planning PP, and Quality Management QM modules, and a Fiori-based mobile solution for field access. Activities performed by the EAM Design Lead included capture of As Is processes, definition of To Be processes, business blueprint development, and detailed system design and configuration for each module.
Integrations were delivered between the Plant Maintenance module and the listed SAP components PPM, PP and QM, with the Fiori mobile solution providing mobile work order and technician functionality. Operational coverage extended to maintenance operations, project and portfolio teams, production planning groups and quality assurance functions, enabling a single SAP-driven EAM workflow across those business functions.
Governance and rollout emphasized structured testing and knowledge transfer, the EAM Design Lead compiled and supported unit testing, user acceptance testing and integration testing, provided client training on SAP EAM functionality, and offered post go-live support. Documentation and blueprint artifacts were used to formalize process changes and to hand over operational governance to ANSTO teams.
