The SAP Concur Expense deployment served as the bank's Expense Management platform to centralize employee expense reporting and automate approval workflows across corporate finance and travel-related spend. The implementation prioritized standardized expense policy enforcement, digital receipt capture, and an auditable expense lifecycle to support financial controls.
Configuration work concentrated on Expense Management capabilities typical for large financial institutions, including expense reporting templates, mobile receipt capture, automated policy enforcement, configurable multi-level approval workflows, and spend reporting to support accounting reconciliation. In 2010 BBVA Compass implemented MicroStrategy ONE Analytics to build an Executive Information System Phase 1 proof of concept, aligning analytics with enterprise executive reporting. The deployment used MicroStrategy ONE Analytics as the chosen platform for Analytics and BI across the bank, supported by a corporate mandate that MicroStrategy tools be the standard for all future business intelligence projects.
Phase 1 delivered dashboarding and scorecard capabilities across six subject areas, specifically Financial Performance, Production and Sales, Risk, Productivity and Activities, Customer Metrics and Human Resources. The implementation emphasized executive dashboards, curated KPIs, drill-down reporting, and scheduled distribution to provide accurate, actionable, and easily understandable data to senior stakeholders.
Architecturally the program was implemented as a centralized MicroStrategy ONE Analytics deployment with server-side reporting, semantic data modeling and a presentation catalog of dashboards for executives. Data consolidation flowed from enterprise operational sources into structured reporting layers and ETL processes feeding the MicroStrategy semantic layer and dashboard engine. Role based security and controlled data access were applied to segregate executive views by line of business and function.
Operational scope explicitly covered BBVA Compass’s three major lines of business, Commercial, Wealth and Retail, and addressed business functions including Treasury Management and Small Business Administration lending workflows. The EIS Phase 1 served as a proof of concept for enterprise-wide analytics, enabling cross-functional visibility across finance, sales, risk, customer and HR domains.
Governance was established through the bank’s mandate to standardize on the MicroStrategy suite, creating a single vendor standard for Analytics and BI initiatives and a foundation for phased rollouts beyond the initial executive proof of concept. The stated outcome for the system was to present accurate, actionable and easily understandable enterprise data across the six subject areas, positioning the MicroStrategy ONE Analytics deployment as the enterprise executive reporting backbone.
