Bestop is located in Louisville, Colorado not far from where it started. With more than 500 employees worldwide, Bestop manufactures a broad line of Soft Tops and Accessories for Jeep CJ and Wrangler, plus an expanding line of Truck Accessories. All Bestop-branded soft tops are designed and manufactured in North America.
Scope and Challenges
“We were using a paper-based PLM process that was slow and cumbersome,” said Rob Dean, Senior Program Manager at Bestop. “As our design cycles were getting faster and faster, we knew we needed to automate tasks and accelerate the entire process.”
With the company's legacy solution it would usually take them from 30 to 60 days to fully circulate and get approval from all relevant parties. The manual process would also often lead to miscommunication. Due to this challenges, they decided to find a more productive and effective way to handle the PLM process.
Outcome and Implications
In 2016 Bestop chose Razorleaf as a partner for the Fusion Lifecycle implementation which has resulted in a dramatic acceleration of the product development process. Bestop was seeing right away a greater response in people performing assigned process tasks. The team can now process 100 ECRs in two months, something that would not have been possible with the manual paper-based system.
As a result of the success of the implementation, Bestop is exploring the possibility of expanding Fusion Lifecycle into supplier management, quality assurance, and purchasing modules.
