SAP SAP ERP ECC 6.0 SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial ERP Financial Management n/a 2021 2024
In 2021, BHP initiated an upgrade to SAP S/4 HANA in the ERP Financial category, transitioning from SAP ERP ECC 6.0 to refactor finance processing. The program was driven by an Accounting Transformation effort focused on Finance, with early engagement across finance users and related systems to assess simplification initiatives introduced by SAP S/4 HANA. The implementation concentrated on core finance modules and sub-areas, specifically Costing, Material Ledger, Budgeting & Forecasting, Joint Venture Accounting, and Fixed Assets. Requirement definition work mapped S/4 HANA simplification changes to BHP business processes, and analysts assessed relevance and configuration implications for each module prior to migration. Operational activities included legacy data analysis, data cleansing planning, data retention profiling, data reconciliation, and report migration to align historical financial records with SAP S/4 HANA data structures. The team developed migration-ready datasets and engaged users early to identify pain points and improvement opportunities that would affect journals, ledgers, and cost accounting flows. Governance and rollout preparation encompassed change impact assessments across finance sub-areas, training need analysis, and definition of a targeted training curriculum for impacted users. The project produced test scripts, supported System Integration Test execution, and coordinated User Acceptance Test activities to validate finance functionality and reporting in SAP S/4 HANA.

SAP Legacy SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Core HR HCM n/a 2020 2020
In 2020, BHP implemented SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central as its Core HR platform. The deployment was scoped to support approximately 40,000 employees across 18 countries and to manage twelve distinct payroll cadences converging on the same cutover date 18/2/2019, establishing Employee Central as the central HR record for global workforce data. SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central was configured to deliver core HR master data, position management and workforce planning capabilities, alongside bespoke modules and utilities developed during the program. Functional workstreams included roster visualization, Covid-19 workforce planning adjustments, payroll data validation, vacant positions migration, and bulk upload processes. Data conversion and validation routines were extended with purpose built Excel, MSAccess, and VBA tools to address nonstandard data shapes and to enable high volume processing beyond standard tooling limits. The implementation included a bidirectional replication and reconciliation pattern with SAP, and operational integration across twelve payroll variants described as weekly, fortnightly, monthly and bi monthly payrolls. Data flows required normalization from up to 22 disparate source structures into a single canonical dataset, and the team reconciled 38 million records in a 12 hour window to validate replication integrity prior to cutover. Governance and operational readiness were managed under an Agile delivery model with a data and cutover lead overseeing a six person data analyst team and distributed tool users numbering over twenty. Automated validation logic, en masse bulk upload tooling and reconciliation routines were used to accelerate testing cycles, enable rapid troubleshooting during build iterations and to support the critical cutover decision for go live.
