| Sterling Talent Solutions | Legacy | Sterling Background Check | BackGround Screening | HCM | n/a | 2018 | 2018 |
In 2018 Bluestem Brands implemented Sterling Background Check as its BackGround Screening solution, led by the Sr. Manager of Talent Acquisition who served as primary administrator for background check vendors and the applicant tracking system. The deployment was positioned inside the company talent acquisition service that supported seven brands across five states, covering corporate and brand hires for HR, Legal, Ecommerce, Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain, IT, Design, Merchandising and Inventory.
The Sterling Background Check implementation focused on typical BackGround Screening functional capabilities, including identity verification, criminal record screening, employment and education verification workflows, electronic candidate consent capture, automated order orchestration, status notifications and configurable adjudication routing. Configuration emphasized vendor portal administration and recruiter-facing status visibility to align screening workflows with hiring stages managed in the ATS.
Integration work included direct operational alignment with UltiPro ATS recruitment design and implementation efforts and with the company job board workflows, reflecting the Sr. Manager role as primary administrator across both the ATS and background check vendor interfaces. Operational scope documented candidate flows from requisition creation in UltiPro through background order placement and result adjudication, ensuring screening steps were embedded into recruiter and hiring manager workflows for all supported brands and departments.
Governance and process changes were formalized by the talent acquisition lead, who developed candidate experience guides, interviewing and referral processes, hiring manager scorecards, executive recruitment protocols and diversity recruitment practices. The administrator role encompassed vendor management, configuration governance, and internal training for recruiters and hiring managers to enforce consistent screening and adjudication procedures across Bluestem Brands.
Sterling Background Check was explicitly named and maintained as the enterprise BackGround Screening application, administered in-house to support centralized screening operations across Bluestem Brands and to integrate screening status into the broader recruitment lifecycle managed through UltiPro and associated job board channels.
