| SAP | Legacy | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2013 | 2013 |
In 2013, BorgWarner implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 to centralize transactional finance and operational planning, using the system as the primary ERP Financial platform that supports manufacturing and supply chain workflows. The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 deployment was positioned to support Production Scheduling, Material Planning, Customer Service, Cycle Counting, Material Handling and Logistics across the plant-level materials organization.
Configuration emphasized core production planning and materials management workflows, inventory accounting and sales forecasting integration within SAP ERP ECC 6.0, aligning master planning to plant capacity, cycle time and inventory rules. The implementation supported creation of a master plan to meet requested customer dates, and provided production staff with centralized planning information consistent with capacity and forecasts.
Operational coverage included the Lead Materials Organization which comprised 4 direct reports and 30 team members, managing 108M in annual sales, 87 suppliers including 12 overseas suppliers, 112 sold to customers and over 200 ship to locations. Accountability in the SAP ERP ECC 6.0 environment included inventory turns, inventory accuracy, IDL labor spend, freight spend and customer on time delivery, and the system was used to produce monthly forecasts for IDL, inbound freight, inventory and sales.
Governance and workflow changes embedded in the rollout included a monthly six month risk and opportunity file presented to plant staff, an established premium freight authorization and tracking process, and participation in emergency resourcing and machining outsourcing programs during 2016 and 2017. Controls were implemented to align purchasing and production planning through the SAP ERP ECC 6.0 driven master plan, and procedures supported exempting the site from annual physical inventory counting when permitted.
Reported outcomes tied to the implementation and associated processes included improved monthly sales forecasting accuracy from plus or minus 7 percent to an average of plus or minus 1.5 percent, and improved visibility of supply risk and opportunities through the six month planning file. BorgWarner continued to use SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as the core ERP Financial and materials planning system to drive production planning and supplier management decisions.
