| SAP | Legacy | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2012 | 2012 |
In 2012, British American Tobacco implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as an ERP Financial platform. The program established a centralized Global SAP ECC Service Centre in Kuala Lumpur, tasked with application administration and operational support for BAT's global business.
The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 deployment concentrated on core financial capabilities consistent with the ERP Financial category, including financial accounting and controlling, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, asset accounting, and treasury-related workflows. Configuration work emphasized a harmonized chart of accounts, multi-currency ledger handling, period-end close orchestration, and centralized master data controls to standardize finance operations across jurisdictions.
The Kuala Lumpur service centre functioned as the central support and transport management hub for the SAP ECC landscape, coordinating release and change management activities for finance teams across BAT regions. Operational scope included centralized incident management, application support, and business process stabilization for finance and shared services functions supporting multiple BAT business units.
Governance was implemented through a global finance application governance model that combined centralized change control, role based access provisioning, and standardized runbooks to manage rollouts and regulatory requirements. SAP ERP ECC 6.0 was positioned as the primary ERP Financial system for British American Tobacco's global finance operations, managed and supported from the Kuala Lumpur service centre.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2016 | 2017 |
In 2016 British American Tobacco implemented SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central to establish a cloud first Core HR platform supporting global HR operations. The initial deployment delivered compensation management and the Employee Central core HR module in 2016, with talent management modules introduced in 2017 and HR analytics added in 2018 as part of a multiwave rollout across 180 countries.
The rollout architecture used a centralized SuccessFactors tenant with country-level configuration, applying configurable fields, validation rules and localized datasets where vendor localization was not yet available. To reach remote and contingent worker populations BAT implemented kiosk access points in leaf stations and factory rest areas, equipping those sites with multifunction printers and scanners and deploying HR-skilled local support or interpreters where local language support was limited.
Functionally the program focused on standardizing HR processes and automating administrative work to free HR to work at higher value. The scope included compensation, core HR data, talent management and analytics, with deliberate limits on devolving complex transactions; creation and management of positions was reallocated to HR VPs and HR shared services rather than line managers to preserve data quality and governance. Change management concentrated on bringing line managers on board by positioning the system as a single source of truth rather than a cost cutting exercise.
As BAT's first core business cloud application the program adapted to quarterly vendor releases, using scheduled downtime windows and postrelease checks, and found timely vendor delivery of compliance features such as GDPR useful. Operational outcomes explicitly noted include increased engagement among remote and contingent worker segments through kiosk access, and an established governance model centered on HR shared services and senior HR ownership for critical master data.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP S/4 HANA Credit Management (FIN-FSCM-CR) | Credit Union Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2020 | 2020 |
In 2020 British American Tobacco implemented SAP S/4 HANA Credit Management (FIN-FSCM-CR) within its Credit Union Management application footprint to centralize group credit control and align credit workflows with the companywide finance template. The work leveraged prior One SAP template design activity from 2010 to 2012 where business processes for Credit Management were mapped into SAP ERP and SAP FSCM, and an SAP IT Designer Finance role contributed to the global template design and validation.
SAP S/4 HANA Credit Management (FIN-FSCM-CR) was configured to support core credit control capabilities typical of the Credit Union Management category, including credit limit management, exposure calculation, automated credit checks at invoicing and delivery, and integration with customer master data and dispute workflows. Configuration emphasized template-driven rules and shared master data to enable consistent credit decisioning across legal entities and business units.
The implementation integrated credit management logic with Accounts Receivable, General Ledger and Cash Management processes already modeled in the One SAP templates, and design validation incorporated complex finance scenarios such as factoring and group valuation identified during the global template programme. The narrative of integrated FI and FSCM modules reflects an architected approach to keep credit exposure and receivables posting synchronized with broader financial accounting.
Governance was led through the One SAP global template programme with finance template owners and the SAP IT Designer Finance validating prototypes and global design for cross-border scenarios. Rollout followed a template and prototype validation pattern rather than bespoke local configurations, ensuring changes to credit rules and master data structures were governed centrally by the finance template team.
