In 2017 California Water Service Company implemented IBM Maximo as part of an Enterprise Asset Management initiative to consolidate asset, work order, and field maintenance capabilities. The implementation configured IBM Maximo to provide core Enterprise Asset Management capabilities including work order management, preventive maintenance scheduling, and asset lifecycle tracking, integrated into mobile app workflows and customer facing portals. IBM Maximo was linked into Mulesoft driven API patterns and used the IBM Maximo connector referenced in integration designs to enable service oriented exchange of asset and work order data with other systems.
Architecturally the program used a hybrid Mulesoft integration layer running Mule ESB 3.8.5 and Anypoint Platform components, operating in on prem and CloudHub environments on AWS, with packaging and releases managed across DEV, QA and PROD via Maven, Jenkins and Nexus. Integrations were explicitly implemented with Oracle CC&B, RMB, PeopleSoft, SAP, Salesforce, enterprise ERP systems and WorkDay, and relied on Oracle databases and Oracle WebLogic for backend services and transaction handling.
Governance emphasized API lifecycle management, RAML based API design, security with SSO and OAuth, SLA definitions, message format and schema governance, and operational monitoring using Splunk and Anypoint management tooling. Integration patterns applied included synchronous flows, queued asynchronous flows, scatter gather and batch scopes, DataWeave transformations, caching to reduce payload latency, error handling frameworks and MUnit testing as part of release gates.
