In 2014, Carnival implemented Oracle Cloud ERP, deploying Oracle Fusion Cloud Financials as its ERP Financial platform. The engagement commenced in July 2014 and ran through June 2015, focused on Carnival Cruise Lines operations with primary delivery in Miami, FL and coordination with London stakeholders.
The implementation encompassed Financials modules including General Ledger, MST, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Oracle Fusion OCR and BI Publisher reporting. Configuration work included setup of Financials Management functional areas, creation of Data Access Sets, and security provisioning through custom job and duty roles in the Security Console, together with Financials Offering and project creation configuration.
Data conversion and interfacing leveraged Oracle Fusion FBDI templates for supplier and invoice loads and ADF DI spreadsheet uploads for journal entries, invoices and daily rates. Workflow and automation used the BPM module to establish invoice approval and PO approval groups, Workflow Builder components to streamline approvals, and an invoice imaging process to upload scanned invoices into Fusion payables, while BI Publisher was used for report development and distribution.
The project replaced an Oracle E Business Suite 11.1.3 environment and involved formal testing and governance cycles, including CRP sessions, UAT for business users, preparation of configuration documentation, creation of test plans, unit testing and re testing, and final sign off. End user and internal training on Fusion AP and GL was delivered as part of the rollout, and the engagement duration was 13 months from July 2014 to June 2015.

In 2022, Carnival implemented Sterling Background Check as part of its BackGround Screening tooling for Talent Acquisition and onboarding operations. The implementation supported the Talent Acquisition Coordinator function at Carnival Cruise Line in Miami, FL and was used to submit online investigation requests and manage new-employee background checks during the January 2022 to May 2022 engagement window.
Sterling Background Check was configured to handle candidate case management, investigation request submission, and status tracking workflows aligned with recruiting and onboarding. The implementation supported verification of identity and documentation workflows that tied into completion of Forms I-9 and the preparation of new employee files, reflecting its use across prehire screening and document verification tasks.
Operational coverage included recruitment, onboarding, immigration intake and HR operations, with recruiters and Talent Acquisition Coordinators initiating and monitoring background checks and updating candidate status in the HRIS. The screening process interfaced operationally with payroll and benefits administration activities and with immigration case processing performed in partnership with external immigration counsel, as part of end to end hiring and compliance workflows.
Governance centered on recruiter driven submission and audit of screening requests, maintenance of I-9 files, and clerical records management to support compliance. The deployment emphasized functional integration into recruiting and HR administrative processes, with Sterling Background Check serving as the primary BackGround Screening application for candidate investigations and verification.

In 2016, Carnival implemented Microsoft Power BI within its Maritime Quality Assurance organization to centralize analysis of safety, training, HR, hotel satisfaction and finance data. The Microsoft Power BI deployment supported Analytics and BI use cases for trend analysis, safety investigations, port and wind assessments, and business case studies for upper management.
Configuration centered on Power BI report development, data modeling and reusable visual dashboards for quarterly and monthly cadences. Analysts combined Microsoft Excel workbooks with Power BI datasets to prepare managerial reports and exported PowerPoint presentations for executive briefings. Scheduled dataset refresh and Power BI Service publishing were used to maintain recurring trend reports and analytic artifacts.
Data pipelines consolidated extracts from the Neptune Safety platform, HR systems and CSMART Training Center attendance feeds, together with CSMART Hotel satisfaction trend data and survey inputs compiled by Fleet Chief Engineers and Fleet Captains. The implementation supported cross functional coverage for Maritime Quality Assurance, Finance, HR, and Fleet operations, and assisted the Director of Finance with monthly financial reporting. Data lineage and shared datasets were used to ensure consistent measures across safety, training and finance reports.
Reporting governance aligned to the Maritime Quality Assurance leadership, with analysts reporting directly to the SVP Maritime Quality Assurance David L. Christie and producing managerial reports for the Chief Maritime Officer and CEO. Operational workflow included quarterly trend analysis, safety risk investigations, port studies and ad hoc business case deliverables, with outputs distributed as Power BI dashboards and PowerPoint executive packets. The deployment emphasized repeatable analytics workflows and centralized Analytics and BI artifacts to support risk mitigation and decision support across shipboard and corporate stakeholders.
