In 2018, Cengage Group implemented Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne to establish an ERP Financial backbone for revenue accounting and financial reporting across its business units. Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne was positioned to centralize transaction processing used by the Mason, OH revenue accounting team and to support cross-functional finance workflows tied to sales transactions and revenue recognition.
Configuration work focused on revenue recognition rules, transaction type mapping, product setup codes, accounts receivable and general ledger posting flows, and reporting structures used to produce monthly reconciliations and waterfall schedules. The implementation supported building analytical models and executive level summaries, with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne data feeding the reporting and disclosure preparation processes described by the revenue accounting function.
Integrations explicitly included Hyperion for management and consolidation activities and RevPro as a third-party revenue processing system, with staff expected to process transactions through RevPro while reconciling and reporting in Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Operational coverage emphasized finance and revenue accounting, working closely with sales data feeds and business unit stakeholders to ensure accurate transaction capture and reporting.
Governance centered on ASC-606 revenue treatment, control procedures, audit support, and monthly and quarterly close activities, including balance sheet causal presentations and disclosure preparation. The application was used to ensure accurate recognition, reporting, and compliance, and to provide the financial reporting and reconciliation capabilities required by the revenue accounting team.

In 2022, Cengage Group implemented Workday Absence Management to extend its Absence and Leave Management capabilities within the Workday suite. The deployment was led by the internal Workday engineering team and centered on operationalizing absence workflows across the companys HR systems, aligning technical configuration with HR business operations.
Workday Absence Management was configured alongside Core HCM, Time and Attendance, Benefits, Payroll, Compensation, Recruiting, Talent, Learning, and Reporting to provide integrated leave, accrual, and time accounting workflows. Configuration work included supervisory organization updates, role and security assignments, business process adjustments for leave requests and approvals, and creation of quicklinks and user-facing documentation to support end users.
Integration and data orchestration relied on Workday EIB templates for mass data loads and on established integration touchpoints between absence, payroll, and time systems to ensure consistent employee time and pay calculations. The program participated in the bi-annual Workday release process, with technical testing of service updates and analysis of release notes to determine feature adoption and required configuration changes.
Governance was executed through HR Technology and IT change control processes, with the engineering team responsible for release testing, validation, and maintaining compliance controls including GDPR and SOX related narratives. The team produced training materials, conducted end-user clinics and user reviews, and coordinated cross-functional communications with Integrations, Organizational Change, Training and Reporting to support rollout and ongoing operations.
Ongoing operational responsibilities included day to day support for absence and leave transactions, monitoring of system performance and service updates, and regular maintenance activities such as mass data loads, security reviews, and enhancements driven by BA input and Workday community research. Workday Absence Management was positioned as a centrally managed HR capability within Cengage Groups cloud HR platform to standardize leave administration and support consistent HR process execution.

In 2018, Cengage Group deployed ON24 Digital Experience Platform as its Collaboration application on the public Cengage website. The ON24 Digital Experience Platform is used to host and stream web-based events and on-demand content, embedded directly into Cengage web properties to surface interactive experiences to visitors.
The deployment follows a cloud-hosted SaaS delivery model with the platform embedded into site registration and content delivery flows. Functional capabilities implemented include live webinars and virtual events, on-demand content libraries, audience engagement widgets such as polls and Q&A, and analytics dashboards for event performance tracking. These modules were configured to support content publishing, scheduling, gated access, and audience engagement workflows on the website.
Operational ownership sits with marketing and digital learning teams, who manage event orchestration, content lifecycle, and publishing governance through the ON24 Digital Experience Platform. Governance practices were defined around event scheduling, content approval, and public site embedding to ensure consistency across web properties. The implementation links Collaboration tooling to Cengage Group business functions responsible for marketing, learner engagement, and digital content delivery.
