In 2025, Cirque du Soleil implemented SAP Business AI, deploying an AI-enabled invoice assistant built on Generative AI Platforms to streamline accounts payable operations. The deployment addresses management of more than 70,000 supplier invoices annually across 38 shows and supports a global workforce of almost 4,000 artists and staff from 80 countries, concentrating on vendor inquiries and invoice status visibility.
The SAP Business AI invoice assistant automates the triage and response process for invoice-related emails, performing multilingual message analysis, request type classification, invoice detail extraction, invoice status determination, sentiment detection, and proposed response generation in English and French. The assistant applies natural language understanding and intelligent automation to prioritize urgent cases and produce standardized draft replies for AP handlers to validate.
Architecturally the solution is built on SAP Business Technology Platform, leveraging SAP HANA Cloud to store and process structured data derived from incoming emails along with analysis results and generated responses, while SAP AI Core provides the AI foundation for detecting urgency, sentiment, and root causes of payment delays. This configuration centralizes email analysis outputs and preserves traceability for downstream AP processing and auditability.
Operationally the assistant is embedded in accounts payable workflows to reduce time spent on manual research, reshape case management and escalation processes, and standardize supplier communications across languages. Governance changes include automated prioritization rules driven by detected sentiment and invoice status, and a human validation step for generated responses to maintain accuracy and contract compliance.
Cirque du Soleil reports that the SAP Business AI assistant reduced average handling time for supplier inquiries from 30 minutes to two minutes per inquiry, delivering faster response times, enhanced supplier experiences and smoother multilingual automation. Stated benefits include efficiency gains, improved accuracy in payment status responses, bilingual support for global suppliers, scalability to handle high volumes, and improved supplier satisfaction.
