In 2011, the City of Naperville chose NorthStar MeterSense MDM as the meter data management solution for its Naperville Smart Grid Initiative. The deployment was tied to a large AMI meter replacement program led by the municipal utility operations team, and the selection positioned NorthStar MeterSense MDM inside the city’s Utilities ERP efforts to centralize meter read validation and interval data reconciliation.
The announcement links MeterSense to AMI validation, performance monitoring and billing workflows, indicating configuration of core meter data management capabilities such as event ingestion, validation rules, interval data storage and exception management. NorthStar MeterSense MDM was implemented to support automated validation pipelines, time series normalization and performance monitoring workflows consistent with meter data management practices for municipal utilities.
Integrations were established with the AMI network and with customer information system billing workflows, as the project required handoff of validated usage data to billing and customer service. Operational scope covered the utility department and customer service functions, with rollout governance aligned to AMI cutover schedules and data reconciliation processes to support billing readiness, grid efficiency objectives and improved customer energy tools.
