In 2021 CommonTrust Network integrated ServiceNow Safe Workplace Suite to validate employee vaccination records, leveraging the ServiceNow Vaccination Status application and The Commons Project SMART Health Card Verifier API. The deployment targeted workplace health workflows under the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) category, focusing on centralized capture and verification of vaccination submissions via desktop and mobile devices.
ServiceNow Safe Workplace Suite was configured to use the Vaccination Status module within Workplace Service Delivery and Safe Workplace solutions to collect vaccine dose dates, vaccine type, and SMART Health Card artifacts. ServiceNow workflows were instrumented to invoke the SMART Health Card Verifier API to cryptographically confirm card integrity and to check issuer membership in the CommonTrust Network registry, with an automated routing path to manual review queues when records could not be validated automatically.
The integration explicitly connects ServiceNow Vaccination Status workflows to The Commons Project SMART Health Card Verifier API and to the CommonTrust Network registry of trusted SMART Health Card issuers that includes government entities, pharmacies, and healthcare providers. Operational coverage centers on employee health attestations and verification processes, with record capture available through both desktop and mobile submission pathways in the ServiceNow Safe Workplace Suite.
Governance was implemented through automated verification rules, escalation queues for business reviewers, and audit trails maintained as ServiceNow records to support compliance and workplace access decisions. Process changes shifted unverifiable submissions from ad hoc manual handling into structured ServiceNow workflows, enabling consistent review, decision logging, and policy enforcement within the EHS function.
As stated in the integration announcement the combined solution streamlines and automates vaccine validation, reducing reliance on time consuming manual checks and enabling faster confirmation of employee vaccination status.
