In 2014, Cornell University began a multi-phase Oracle PeopleSoft ERP initiative within its ERP Financial environment, initiating an upgrade path for Campus Solutions from version 8.9 to 9.0 and targeting core student administration and student financial workflows. The program was managed under a centralized technical architecture with a designated Technical Architect coordinating development, testing, and deployment activities across institutional teams.
The PeopleSoft Campus Solutions work spanned an initial upgrade from 8.9 to 9.0 executed July 2014 to August 2015, a Phase II development effort from September 2015 to April 2016, and an upgrade to Campus Solutions 9.2 completed February 21, 2017. Delivered modules and customizations included a CustomStudent Financials Staff Summary Page to aggregate front-line financial data, a rewritten Mass ID Delete process that removed nearly 1 million unused prospects in three hours, a FlexLoad Framework enabling functional users to define CSV layouts for Program/Plan and Milestone loads, and 17 discrete development projects that were unit tested and documented.
Technical implementation work included installation and maintenance of PeopleSoft server software, retrofitting Integration Broker web service integrations, and tuning Change Assistant steps to reduce runtime by more than six hours. Development and quality activities were executed by a coordinated team that peaked at nine developers, including domestic and offshore resources, with formal unit testing and documentation handed off to business users for acceptance testing.
Governance and rollout were led by the Technical Architect who reviewed and approved all work, supervised development sprints, and introduced a triple compare process that reduced object retrofit volume by 75 percent compared with the traditional compare report process. Projects were completed on schedule and well under budget, and technical leads retained a buffer period to focus on performance tuning of long running processes prior to production cutover.

In 2021, Cornell University implemented Kuali Financials as part of a cloud-first Education ERP modernization led by Cornell Information Technologies, supporting a connected digital campus for 23,000 students and nearly 10,000 employees across 15 colleges and schools in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East. The implementation aligned with institutional goals to improve administrative efficiency, reduce IT costs and deliver on-demand access to administrative and financial services for students, faculty and staff.
Kuali Financials was provisioned within Cornell’s hybrid IT architecture as the central Education ERP for core financial management workflows, including general ledger, accounts payable, procurement, grants accounting, budgeting and institutional reporting. The deployment emphasized standard Education ERP capabilities for institutional finance and grant administration, and was configured to operate alongside remaining on-premise systems while supporting cloud-first operational objectives.
Integration of Kuali Financials was executed through a Boomi-powered integration fabric that connected the financial system to a set of enterprise applications explicitly used at Cornell, including Salesforce, Oracle PeopleSoft, Workday, SAP Concur, Blackboard, Longview and iModules. Boomi API Management and connectors were used to unlock finance and related administrative data from non-cloud sources, enabling near real-time interfaces and orchestration across finance, HR and student systems.
Governance and rollout were led by CIT, which centralized integration development and monitoring into a compact team that accelerated the integration cadence. Cornell’s experience with Boomi produced explicit results for integration development speed and runtime performance, and bringing Kuali Financials into that integration fabric improved the maintainability, monitoring and operational visibility of finance integration processes.
