In 2011, Covanta implemented IBM Maximo as its Enterprise Asset Management platform to support plant maintenance across its Energy-from-Waste facilities and the corporate maintenance organization. IBM Maximo was configured to support preventive maintenance program management, work order management, asset register and data management, job planning and scheduling, and backlog tracking. Configuration emphasized job cost and time estimating, maintenance productivity reporting, and parts and materials record keeping to align with the technical and planning requirements of boiler, power piping, electrical and instrumentation maintenance.
Operational scope covered maintenance departments, supervisors, technicians and the operations interface for daily work plan priority adjustments, on-call rotations, and outage support. The system supported daily, weekly and monthly maintenance reporting workflows, and served as the point of record for maintenance planning, execution status and backlog management used by supervisors and the maintenance manager.
Governance and workflow design centered on role-based work order lifecycles with manager oversight for planning and supervisors responsible for execution and reporting. Maximo was used to centralize preventive maintenance scheduling, standardize work planning processes and embed structured safety audit and incident support activities within maintenance records.
