In 2019, DSW Zorgverzekeraar implemented Microsoft Azure Bot Service (AI) as a Chatbots and Conversational AI solution to handle customer inquiries on its public website in the Netherlands. Sogeti built the chatbot Nikki using its Thinkubator approach and delivered a working Minimum Lovable Product in six weeks, targeting service support for DSW’s roughly 600,000 customers and aiming to answer about 75 percent of incoming customer queries.
The Microsoft Azure Bot Service (AI) deployment used Microsoft Azure Cloud infrastructure and deployed Azure Cognitive Services alongside the Microsoft Bot Framework to design and build the conversational dialog structure. Functional capabilities implemented include intent recognition and natural language understanding, a dialog manager constructed with the Bot Framework, sentiment analysis via the Text Analytics API, and iterative machine learning so the chatbot continuously improves its ability to handle more complex conversations. The solution surfaces as a pop-up chat window on the DSW website and is configured to present empathetic, human-like responses including informal cues such as emojis to match a younger user segment.
Governance and rollout followed Sogeti’s four-step Thinkubator process rather than a traditional proof of concept, progressing from joint workshops with DSW to scenario selection, roadmap definition, prototype testing, and immediate production delivery. DSW and Sogeti teams collaborated on decisions around required domain expertise and data inputs, and incorporated user feedback during development to refine conversational flows and answer coverage. Operational ownership sits with customer service and functional IT stakeholders, with close involvement from DSW’s Head Functional IT during the rollout.
The implementation leveraged pre-existing templates and accelerators to speed time-to-market and included continuous learning algorithms to improve response quality over time. The project delivered an accessible, empathetic conversational agent intended to boost customer satisfaction for DSW, with a stated expectation that Nikki would handle approximately 75 percent of customer queries.

In 2017, DSW Zorgverzekeraar implemented Google Workspace (Formerly Google G-Suite) to centralize productivity tools for internal operations and to support Collaboration across the organization. The rollout targeted the insurer’s 650 employees and established Google Workspace as the primary platform for email, calendar, document and real-time collaboration, and administrative user provisioning.
Google Workspace (Formerly Google G-Suite) was configured to provide standard Collaboration capabilities including Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar and the Admin console, with role-based account management and domain-wide settings to govern user access and data sharing. Configuration work emphasized document collaboration and shared drive structures to support cross-department workflows between operations and customer contact teams.
In 2019 DSW extended its contract to leverage Google Cloud Platform services, using Google Cloud locations cited as San Francisco US, Utrecht NL and Mechelen BE, to build proof of concepts for customer service innovation. The extension specifically targeted customer contact optimization by integrating speech-to-text and other AI and machine learning capabilities from GCP, with g-company engaged to support PoCs and hands-on implementation of those cloud-based analytics and AI services.
Governance and rollout were formalized through a contract extension with g-company and executive sponsorship from COO CIO Frans ten Brink, who cited broad functionality, scalability and pay-as-you-go economics of GCP as enablers for continued innovation. The implementation narrative centers on Google Workspace for Collaboration as the core productivity layer, extended into Google Cloud Platform for AI driven customer service improvements, with PoC governance and partner-led implementation support.
