SAP Legacy SAP Ariba Invoice AP Automation ERP n/a 2018 2018
In 2018 Duke Energy implemented SAP Ariba Invoice as part of an AP Automation initiative for its Accounts Payable organization. The deployment focused on high-volume invoice processing in the Charlotte, North Carolina AP operation, where staff processed more than 250 vendor invoices daily and managed vendor onboarding and W9 tax form handling. SAP Ariba Invoice was configured to support invoice capture, GL coding, entry and recording of invoices, and processing of credit and debit memos. Core functional workflows implemented included PO to invoice matching, exception routing for pricing and quantity discrepancies, manual coding for non-PO invoices, and user workflows for buyer-led issue resolution. The configuration supported daily accounting transactions and accounting reconciliations necessary for payment application. Operational integrations centered on bidirectional interfaces between SAP Ariba Invoice and enterprise procurement and accounting systems, enabling PO detail lookup, automated matching, and reconciliation of accounting entries. The implementation extended to vendor master data processes for new vendor setup, and produced daily operational metrics for management reporting. Error handling covered interface exceptions and reconciliation failures, routed for analyst investigation and buyer collaboration. Governance and process changes emphasized structured exception workflows, a vendor setup approval process, and month-end closing discipline to ensure AP transactions were processed within reporting deadlines. Staff responsibilities included daily metric preparation and presentation to management, problem solving of interface and accounting discrepancies, and escalation protocols to resolve PO and invoice mismatches.

Workday Legacy Workday Benefits Benefits Administration HCM n/a 2018 2018
In 2018, Duke Energy implemented Workday Benefits as part of a Benefits Administration initiative to centralize employee benefits configuration and administration. The implementation targeted HR and payroll functional teams and included hands-on configuration of Workday Benefits to manage eligibility, enrollments, and benefit plan setups. The implementation included configuration of Staffing and Compensation modules alongside Workday Benefits, and development of Simple, Advanced Custom Reports and Matrix Reports to support benefits reporting and operational workflows. Analysts executed employee maintenance capabilities within regulatory frameworks for wage and overtime and handled in-house multi-state tax filing processes tied to benefits and payroll data. EIB uploads and Iload file creation were used to seed and validate benefits data during setup. Testing and validation were executed using Zephyr with unit and end-to-end test cases and generated EIB uploads for test employee populations to validate benefits enrollments and integrations. Project work included preparing the design of a sync with PeopleSoft in collaboration with the Workday vendor team, providing an integration path between benefits administration and existing HR and payroll records. Data conversion activities and Iload processes were incorporated into the implementation to ensure data integrity for Workday Benefits. Governance followed structured Discovery Sessions to capture requirements and define testing scenarios, with internal Workday analysts performing hands-on configuration and report authoring to maintain control of Benefits Administration. Operational scope covered HR, payroll and staffing functions within Duke Energy and emphasized coordinated workflows across benefits, compensation and staffing teams. The rollout strategy prioritized configuration ownership, testing rigor and alignment of employee maintenance processes to established payroll and tax regulations.

Hitachi Vantara Legacy Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite Asset Performance Management ERP Services and Operations n/a 2017 2018
In 2017 Duke Energy deployed Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite as an Asset Performance Management solution for distribution asset oversight. The implementation targeted distribution grid asset health and maintenance workflows with production support coverage reported for Florida, Raleigh and the Carolinas, and positioned Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite to centralize asset records, condition monitoring and work planning for field crews. Configuration efforts emphasized detailed asset modeling and equipment parameterization for generators, transformers, transmission lines, switches, shunt reactors and capacitors, reflecting hands on modeling for smart grid distribution systems.
