In 2015 Ford Motor Company New Zealand implemented SAP Vehicle Management System (VMS) in an Automotive ERP deployment to centralize vehicle master data and order orchestration. The SAP Vehicle Management System (VMS) was configured to operate within an SAP ECC 6.00 environment using IS Auto capabilities, and the implementation emphasized integration-oriented architecture to support multi-market order flows.
The implementation covered core VMS functional modules including Vehicle Creation with inbound feeds, Managing Vehicle Models and Customer Information, Vehicle tracking, Vehicle Configuration, Variant Configuration for buildable combinations, Vehicle Sales Order pricing, Action Matrix and action controls, and creation of customized Velo-Actions. Variant Configuration workstreams captured vehicle characteristics, configuration profiles, relationship and object dependencies to ensure model-level constraints and pricing logic were enforced.
Integrations were explicitly implemented with the VISTA vehicle ordering front end through SAP PI for online replication of vehicle model databases and dealer order intake, and with VMACS for receipt of vehicle statuses used to drive status-based processing. The VMS generated invoice information and forwarded invoice data to downstream applications for Financial Reporting, Accounts Receivables, and Vehicle Cost Accounting, supporting operational processes across sales, finance, and logistics teams and covering dealer markets that include New Zealand among other regional markets.
