In 2013, Freeport Memorial Library implemented Innovative Sierra ILS. The deployment established Innovative Sierra ILS as the core Library Management platform to centralize circulation, cataloging, patron records, and the public discovery layer across the library's operations. The implementation emphasized integrated catalog and circulation workflows to support frontline patron services and back office catalog maintenance.
Configuration work focused on standard Sierra functional areas including bibliographic cataloging, item-level circulation, patron management, acquisitions and serials control, holds and request processing, and reporting. Automation of holds, due date calculations, and basic fines and billing workflows were configured consistent with Library Management operational patterns, alongside public access catalog indexing and patron account self-service. Module privileges were aligned to role based access for circulation staff, catalogers, and administrative users to enforce operational separation of duties.
Rollout and governance prioritized staff training and procedural documentation, leveraging existing staff skills with Sierra, Microsoft Suite, and social media to accelerate adoption. Change control consisted of documented cataloging standards, circulation transaction procedures, and request fulfillment workflows, with operational ownership assigned to public services and technical services teams.
