| SAP | Legacy | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2018 | 2019 |
In 2018, G-Star deployed SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial application. The SAP S/4 HANA environment was established on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, running on IBM POWER hardware with PowerVM as the hypervisor, and the live S/4 environment is described as running atop IBM POWER10 servers to support real-time operational processing for retail workflows.
The implementation covers core ERP Financial capabilities aligned to retail point-of-sale and operational finance, with approximately 25 SLES systems dedicated to the retail department primarily for point-of-sale functions. SUSE Manager was configured to centralize infrastructure management, providing content lifecycle management, scheduled update orchestration, patch testing gates, and the ability to push updates across mixed Linux distributions, including CentOS and other Linux systems.
G-Star’s technology stack is delivered through close collaboration with SUSE, IBM and SAP as strategic suppliers, and the SAP S/4 HANA application is integrated into global store operations and IT management workflows. The IT team leverages SUSE subscriptions and enterprise support for issue resolution, and the roadmap includes a planned migration of most servers to the cloud in 2023 followed by a sub-environment migration from IBM AIX to SAP S/4 HANA on SLES.
Governance and operational controls emphasize package authorization, patch testing before production, and CVE monitoring to protect a mixed Linux estate. Reported outcomes tied to this configuration include improved agility through faster build test and deploy cycles, more consistent application performance for users, simplified systems management with SUSE Manager, and strengthened security posture against common vulnerabilities and exposures, a rationale echoed by UNIX administrator Marcel Huisman regarding SLES compatibility with SAP.

In 2012, G-Star implemented SDL Tridion as its Content Management platform to build, configure and launch the new G-Star website. The engagement covered full SDL Tridion Content Management responsibility for templating, web server maintenance, development of new features, and ongoing CMS maintenance during and after the public launch.
Implementation work centered on SDL Tridion templating and content authoring patterns, including component and template development, presentation layer configuration, and the publishing pipeline typical of Content Management projects. Server level responsibilities included provisioning and maintenance of web servers that host the presentation tier, plus change management for feature deployments and routine CMS updates.
Operational coverage spanned web operations, digital and marketing teams that authored and published site content, with SDL Tridion used as the central Content Management system for the public website. Governance emphasis focused on template standards, content workflows and release procedures to support ongoing site updates and feature delivery through the SDL Tridion platform.

In 2015, G-Star implemented the Intershop E-Commerce Platform as its primary eCommerce solution. The deployment focused on online storefront capabilities and end-to-end order management and logistics processes for the Netherlands retailer, with business testing embedded into iterative scrumteam workflows.
Business testing responsibilities were formalized in UAT, where business testers validated new functionalities as part of a scrumteam. Testing covered integration points with the Tridion content management system, project-based changes in order management and logistics modules, writing and executing test cases, and processing support tickets for bug fixes and incremental improvements.
Operational test activities required raising and processing test orders across Intershop, WICS, the Omnichannel portal, Paazl for shipping, and Adyen for payment processing, validating transactional flows from storefront to fulfillment. Regression testing and sanity testing were executed during deployments to the live environment to confirm release stability.
Governance centered on UAT acceptance within sprint cadences, with testers triaging tickets and documenting test cases to support release readiness and production handoff. The Intershop E-Commerce Platform implementation linked eCommerce operations, order management, logistics, and support functions to maintain coordinated release discipline.
