In 2018, Harvest Health Foods implemented Deputy Scheduling to manage store level workforce scheduling at its Palm Desert location. The family owned retailer operates with about 50 employees overall and the store level team using the app consisted of six frontline staff, managed by owner Craig Stone and his daughter Danielle. The implementation targeted retail operations and frontline scheduling within a single site.
Deputy Scheduling was configured to deliver personalized shift rosters and mobile schedule distribution, improving visibility into assigned hours for individual employees. Deputy Scheduling provided core Workforce Scheduling capabilities including roster creation, shift publishing to the mobile app, and in app access to schedules, which reduced manual shift handling. The application also provided accountability controls that managers used to confirm attendance and reduce no shows.
Before adopting Deputy Scheduling the team relied on pen and paper and a payroll vendor's scheduling feature that required printing and manual distribution. The deployment emphasized mobile access, with employees using the Deputy mobile app to view schedules and interact with shifts, enabling managers to stop printing and calling staff to confirm hours. Operational coverage was focused on store operations and front of house staff rather than distributed retail sites.
Governance moved from printed schedules and ad hoc phone follow ups to app based schedule publication and manager oversight via the Deputy Scheduling console. Schedule creation time fell from about one hour per week to roughly ten minutes, a 500 percent decrease in time spent creating schedules. The retailer reported an 80 percent reduction in late arrivals or no shows after adoption, a change attributed to increased schedule visibility and employee accountability provided by Deputy Scheduling.
