| SAP | SAP ERP HCM | SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2024 | 2024 |
In 2024, Hubert Burda Media implemented SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central as its Core HR solution to harmonize HR processes across the group. The migration moved core employee data and lifecycle processes from an on-premise SAP ERP HCM environment to the cloud-based SAP SuccessFactors portfolio, with an initial production scope covering 5,000 employees in Germany across entities headquartered in Offenburg and Munich within a corporate structure of more than 200 legal entities and roughly 10,500 employees overall.
The implementation deployed SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central alongside targeted SAP SuccessFactors modules for recruitment, onboarding, and performance management. Functional capabilities configured include central employee master data maintenance, visibility of salary components and positions, leave request and approval workflows, document upload for personnel records, structured onboarding automation, and the SAP SuccessFactors Performance and Goals workflow for annual and continuous performance processes. The project also enabled mobile access through the SAP SuccessFactors Mobile app to support approvals and employee self-service.
Architecturally the solution was delivered as a cloud-to-on-premise integration pattern, with SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central acting as the system of record for most HR master data and automated feeds into the on-premise SAP ERP HCM payroll solution for pay processing. Data privacy and local regulatory handling were explicitly modeled in the configuration, and SAP Preferred Success services provided a dedicated support channel and expert access for operational stabilization.
Governance and process redesign were central to the rollout, with Burda engaging managers and employees in process design to shift transactional tasks to self-service and to centralize compliance rules. The implementation established a single entry point for HR activities, standardized approval workflows for compliance, and devolved responsibility for data accuracy to managers and employees, enabling HR to reorient toward strategic priorities.
Measured outcomes reported by the company are specific and operational. Burda reduced the number of performance-related forms from 40 to 10, a 75 percent reduction, enabled more than 60 self-service scenarios, and achieved mobile adoption by roughly 25 percent of employees. Reporting and analytics access for managers and executives improved, and the company is planning rollout to additional entities and evaluating SAP SuccessFactors People Analytics to extend reporting and insight capabilities.
