In 2018, Irish Life Assurance migrated from Oracle E-Business Suite to SAP ERP ECC 6.0. The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 implementation served as the ERP Financial backbone for European Technology, covering Irish Life Group, Canada Life UK, Canada Life Europe and Central Technology Services Europe, and centralizing finance management for technology spend across those entities.
SAP ERP ECC 6.0 was configured to support core ERP Financial capabilities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets and cost center accounting. The implementation included commercial billing and charge-out workflows to support Central Technology Services chargebacks, chart of accounts harmonization and master data rationalization to enable consolidated European IT reporting. SAP ERP ECC 6.0 also provided the transactional finance foundation needed for downstream cost allocation and analysis functions.
The implementation established integrations and data feeds from the European Technology tool ecosystem, including Clarity, Lean IX, CMDB, Service Now enhanced capability and Apptio Cloudability, to bring IT spend, asset and service consumption data into finance processes. Those feeds were designed to support consolidated reporting, automated charge-out calculations and analysis across multiple IT units. The integrated data flows were scoped to underpin management of approximately €200m of annual European technology spend, including circa €55m of CTS spend charged out to divisions.
Governance and operating model changes placed the European Technology Finance & Commercial team as the center of gravity for finance ownership, with finance representation embedded in tool delivery and change programmes. The role reporting to the Head of ETS Finance focused on designing the future finance model for Europe IT spend, ensuring billing, cost management and reporting requirements were built into tool configurations and integrations. Implementation workstreams aligned technical configurations in SAP ERP ECC 6.0 with the five year European Technology strategy to improve consolidated financial visibility for technology across Europe.
