In 2016, ITOCHU Corporation implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial system. The deployment was positioned as an enterprise-wide modernization of financial management and reporting, leveraging the companys long history with SAP and collaboration with ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation through the SAP Premium Engagements partner program to accelerate adoption and technical alignment.
The SAP S/4 HANA implementation emphasized core financial management capabilities typical of ERP Financial systems, including financial accounting, automated consolidation and aggregated ledgers, and real-time reporting workflows. The solution was built on the SAP HANA in-memory platform to enable rapid accumulation and aggregation of large volumes of data, and configuration efforts focused on streamlining month end processing and operational reporting within SAP S/4 HANA.
Integrations centered on the SAP HANA platform and SAP BusinessObjects BI solutions, with the SAP BusinessObjects business intelligence stack instrumented to deliver operational and management reporting. The program created a central source of data called HANABI, which consolidated transactional and analytical data to support faster reporting and cross-business analytics, and it extended coverage across corporate application systems and finance functions.
Governance and rollout prioritized business user enablement to ensure users took full advantage of available BI tools, combining configuration changes with user adoption activities led by the corporate application systems organization. Documented outcomes include a central source of data that meets immediate information needs, automated data consolidation that reduces the risk of errors, faster reporting and analytics that lower time and cost of reporting, a five-fold increase in the number of users leveraging BI tools, and an up to 92% decrease in time to create monthly reports from four hours to 20 minutes.

In 2021 ITOCHU Corporation implemented Bloom Career Registration as a Candidate Relationship Management solution on its public careers site. Bloom Career Registration was deployed to capture candidate interest directly through the ITOCHU careers web pages, establishing a centralized intake point for early talent engagement.
The deployment focused on Candidate Relationship Management capabilities, configuring web registration forms to capture candidate profiles, résumé uploads, and consent records, and to create persistent talent pool records for subsequent engagement. The implementation included automated candidate acknowledgement and configurable candidate lifecycle tracking, enabling segmented talent pools and targeted follow up workflows consistent with recruiting practice for large enterprises.
Technically the application was embedded in ITOCHU's corporate careers pages as a web-facing component that routes captured candidate data into internal recruiting workflows and HR intake processes. Governance controls were applied to data access and ownership, with role based access for recruiting teams and standardized intake routing rules to operationalize candidate handoffs across ITOCHU recruitment and HR functions.

| In-House Applications | Legacy | In-House Blockchain | Blockchain Platform | Blockchain | n/a | 2021 | 2021 |
In 2021, Itochu Corporation launched Project TREE, deploying an In-House Blockchain as a Blockchain Platform to establish end-to-end traceability for natural rubber across its value chain. The initial commercial rollout targeted the UK market with distribution partnerships that include Pirelli UK and retail availability at Kwik Fit, leveraging Itochu subsidiaries PT. Aneka Bumi Pratama and European Tyre Enterprise Limited to connect upstream production to downstream retail.
The implementation centers on an In-House Blockchain application developed by Itochu Techno-Solutions Corporation that records transaction-level attributes such as date and geolocation supplied by smallholders. Functional capabilities implemented include a smartphone data capture front end linked to ABP’s procurement system, on-chain recording of harvest volumes and locations, a map-based visualization layer that marks protected forest areas, and asset segregation controls to keep traceable raw material batches separate through processing.
Project TREE’s In-House Blockchain is integrated with the HeveaPro Data Center factory management system from HeveaConnect to couple traceability records with physical factory inventory, creating data-backed rubber units sold to tyre manufacturers. The solution issues credits to tyre manufacturers proportional to the quantity of traceable rubber purchased, and those credits are applied to produced tyres which are then offered to end consumers via retail partners such as Kwik Fit, with additional participating manufacturers including Hankook.
Governance and operational controls were structured to involve all supply chain stakeholders from smallholders to wholesalers, with Itochu executing supply chain risk assessments supported by Proforest Southeast Asia and SNV Indonesia and rolling out sequential improvement plans. Commercial mechanisms include purchase premiums paid by tyre manufacturers, redistribution of a portion of tyre sale proceeds to upstream participants, and non-monetary incentives for smallholders without smartphones or bank accounts such as farm tools, fertiliser and training to increase participation and data provision.
Explicit outcomes cited by Itochu include the December 2021 start of UK distribution and availability of Project TREE tyres at Kwik Fit, and the project’s contribution to Itochu’s CSR objectives and the goals of the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber. Itochu describes this as the first use of blockchain to establish traceability in the natural rubber industry, and supporting manufacturers publicly characterized the initiative as an important step toward greater supply chain transparency.
