In 2020, Kuantum Papers implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform to unify manufacturing and back-office workflows and to prepare for broader geographic expansion from its single Punjab site. The deployment targeted integrated front-to-back processes across production planning, raw materials management, quality control and logistics while enabling native real-time analytics and IIoT readiness for factory floor automation. Kuantum Papers SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial is positioned to support finance and operational reporting needs in a high-volume paper manufacturing environment.
SAP S/4 HANA was configured to deliver standard ERP Financial capabilities alongside manufacturing-oriented modules, extending digital workflows into previously manual quality-control activities and providing detailed KPI reporting for production teams. The implementation emphasized real-time analytics and transactional consolidation to enable tighter coordination between shop floor operations and finance, consistent with ERP Financial functional workflows. SAP S/4 HANA was used to surface quality and operational metrics to end users and to centralize transactional finance and inventory records.
The technical architecture centers on IBM infrastructure, with SAP S/4 HANA running on IBM Power System S824 servers under SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications, connected to IBM FlashSystem 5000 storage managed by IBM Spectrum Virtualize. The environment uses IBM PowerVM logical partitions to consolidate five previously separate x86 servers into two Power Systems servers, and IBM Spectrum Protect performs automated backups to an IBM TS3100 Tape Library. A disaster recovery platform was provisioned on an IBM Power System H922 with FlashSystem 5010H storage hosted at a geographically separate data center, and IBM Systems Lab Services collaborated with the SAP implementation partner and Kuantum Papers internal IT team on architecture and configuration.
Governance and operational rollout were executed through joint teams from IBM, the SAP implementation partner, and Kuantum Papers IT, with knowledge transfer to build required in-house skills for ongoing management. Explicit outcomes reported from the implementation include consolidation from five x86 servers to two IBM Power Systems servers, an avoidance of 20 percent in capital costs compared with an equivalent x86 solution, a 60 percent reduction in physical server footprint and a combined 40 percent reduction in maintenance, power and data center cooling costs. Real-time data replication between primary and disaster recovery sites was implemented to reduce business risk and to protect SAP S/4 HANA production data while enabling Kuantum Papers to scale operationally for future growth.
